What 4 apps will you feature in Timeline? (13 posts)

Topic tags: applications, apps, Timeline
  • When business pages force-switch to Timeline on March 30th tabs will disappear and only four selected apps will show right below the cover photo.
Facebook has already chosen photos to be an option, but what other three will you choose to feature? Will they be Facebook created or custom? Share your industry, Facebook page and the apps that you’ll be featuring.

  • @lauraringer

We will be using a custom app.

It will provide a SSL hosted environment ware any one can set up an account and be able create there own fanpage and manage it.

A basic account will be free

  • im  thinking….welcome….now in….and  not sure yet…..  picking  between  a map,  wanted to  buy, and  garden…. @lauraringer   i assume  you  can  change  or  rearrange   later if  you  want to….

  • Something I noticed when watching a ShortStack webinar … you can have up to 10 that will be viewable with two of them picked by FB … photos as @lauraringer and likes that gives you 8 more. You access the rest by clicking on the little triangle to the right of the app boxes.

The interesting thing … you can place even more apps but only the first 10 will show to your visitors. You could create an app that can be used as a semi-private app. Semi-private because visitors can still access the app if you give them the URL.

Some uses for semi-private apps …

    • Run a subscriber only special where you give your newsletter subscribers the url to the app.
    • Put the app URL into a QR code that you only use for that QR code allowing for annalytics/tracking
    • Anything you want to create as an exclusive limited access app.
As far as the three at the top .. I agree a welcome app, perhaps a contest app, and maybe a special offer.

Some good app ideas could include a staff app where you showcase the people who handle your FB page if there are multiple admins. Sort of like a bio page. I’ve seen a Fan of the day/week/month app. An events app. If a business has multiple locations, you could use a locations app.

  • Its almost like back to basics for web building.  Normally you have: home, about us, products / services, contact.

So, for me Im going to have:

    - Home (which will be my http://www.iwipa.com built site)
    - Products (probably build that with iwipa)
    - Pinterest page (this is a new idea, Im going to make an app to do this)
    - Contact Us (Making an app)

  • @vincentedwards – I subscribe to iwipa – now that my old layout is completely wiped away, are there instructions somewhere for how I totally rebuild with the Timeline?

  • That is a great and really interesting question .. at the moment

    1. Blog
    2. You Tube
    3. Welcome / custom app that leads to more info

I am not sure how many visitors will look to “go to page 2″ to view the extra APPS available for a while :)

I’m sure we will soon find out what works best from our Network here.

  • @denisedorman what is your plan?  You can use iwipa to build a custom website.  Once you start you can then choose a template etc, then create a nice button for it.

A new feature coming on iwipa, is the ability to create a “form gate”.  Im not sure if you’re familiar with “fan gate” (fan gate, you ask people to like your page before you show them content)… well, a “form gate” is you get people to fill out a form…. before you show them content.

So, to start with, build a landing home page and make a nice slideshow if you want to do that.

but, Im assuming you want to create a page to showcase your products or services? what is the plan…

  • You guys are great!

I’m playing with the ideas of:

    • Support
    • Photos
    • Videos
    • Online store
It all depends on what our team can create before March 30th. Then we get to see how the community responds. This should be fun!

  • @lauraringer

We are considering a few different apps that coincide with the ones you have listed.  For sure, we want the welcome page and email sign-up (mailchimp).  We run a weekly newsletter, so this will come in handy.

  • @vincentedwards Love your idea here.  And you are right, it is back to basics.  The positioning of these apps closely represents the positioning of navigation.  Good thinking!

  • Yes, using the buttons as navigation will be user intuitive ;)

  • Thinking about.,..

    • Custom Welcome Tab
    • Newsletter subscription form
    • Contact Form
    • Pinterest
