We made the leap to Timeline! (6 posts)

  • A Quantum… Timeline Leap!
I just made the leap to Timeline… I’m not done yet, but I thought I’d share the news that it was fairly painless. I’m now learning my way around. I did take the time to have our graphic design person build the cover image, and I did up our new logo with tagline.

    Check it out!

    What I Like:

    • The Cover Image is cool. I’m already coming up with a contest that will let us get around Facebook’s Anti-Marketing Crusade for that space.
    • Interface is a bit cleaner. I like the admin panel being right at the top. I will need to poke around more, but I’m thinking this will be a great change.
    • Timeline. More on this later, but OMGZ with extra z on this one.

    What I Don’t Like:

    • I don’t like the two column layout. I’m not used to it yet, and I know I’m being crummy, but I can’t help it. MySpace anyone?
    • Apps. I’m not happy with the overall app situation period with Facebook. It is a very obtuse system, and I’ll be working to hand-build our own apps moving forward. I know: insane. But I’m taking classes on Javascript and CSS so that I can do it myself.

So that’s my report. Kind of convoluted, but I hope it helps others make the decision to switch. I think it will be worth it in the end, and am looking forward to exploring this more!

  • I like your cover photo.  You might want to enlarge your logo in your avatar.

While you can’t put contact info in your cover photo, you could include your web address in your avatar. I have converted most of the pages I manage to timeline.  Just a couple left to do.  I have also been converting the welcome pages and moving that icon up in the apps position.  See it in action here.

  • nice cover ..very impressive how many   good pictures  you  got  in that  space…

…  i didnt  get a clear message   from  the words tho..but  your  customers  probably  would……

your  concern list rang a lot of bells with me……

  • @jasonreilly your timeline looks good.  I have noticed on pages that have a logo with a white background in the avata, that the logo fades in postings on my wall.  The white background just doesn’t allow the logo to pop.

  • Hello all!

I am working with our graphic design person to update our avatar! We just got the new file in.

@chrissamichelle – you stated that white backgrounds fade out. Do you have any good examples? My boss wanted a white background. I had wanted to take the blue swirl we have in our cover photo, and switch it to a lighter blue and use that. I’ll talk to my boss again.

@annfurnivall – Thank you! My coworker and I worked very hard to make that happen. We feel that the end result was worth the effort, and are very happy with it. As for the “Where Easy Adds Up!” our brand is about making it easy for our members (easy to deposit, easy to get a loan, etc etc). We were using another tagline, but it was trademarked to a bank in Michigan! So we had to switch it up :) As for my concerns, I’m proceeding with caution on this. :)

@deereinhardt – I’ll be working to make the necessary changes with my graphic designer. I don’t like that the logo is SO SMALL! Sadly we have a HUGE logo in terms of major text, compared to what the rest of the text looks like. Hopefully we can get it fixed. Failing that I’ll see if we can’t come up with a few other options! I love your page by the way, and will be checking out your apps as well!

  • I like the look of the page but it took me a fair while to know what the page was about.
