Video Testimonials – What should we do with them? (10 posts)

Topic tags: testimonials, video, YouTube
  • We have been struggling to find resources to create quality videos for our YouTube channel. We have had quite a few people post some great video testimonials on our Facebook page lately.  Should I simply download the videos and upload them to our YouTube channel?  If so, would it be better to do them one by one, or splice them together into one longer video?  Is there any examples of brands successfully using customer-made testimonials on YouTube.

    Thanks,

    Blake Brown

  • Hi Blake.  We struggle with the same thing, so it’s great that you have these testimonials  Shorter is definitely better than longer, although I could see an opportunity to pull in several with some good narration.  (You could add some photos about your services in between.) You might want to get releases from each person first, just in case.

  • @blake-brown – sorry, I forgot to tag you.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, @asearfoss.  I think I’ll upload just one of the videos and see how well it does.  If that doesn’t do well, I’ll try combining a few together with pictures and narration and see how it compares.

Now I just need to brush up on my video editing skills…  :s

  • Good luck with it, @blake-brown.  If nothing else, it will help with the search engines. Make sure you embed you video on your website and post to your blog.  Don’t forget to post on your other social media sites, like Twitter and Google+.  You might as well get as much traction as possible.

What editing tools are you planning to use?  The free ones like Windows Movie Maker are fine, but I purchased Camtasia Studio a few years ago.  It’s easy to use and has a lot of features to enhance your video.

  • consider multiple files. merging 2 videos might give the incorrect profession that 2 people were together, if they were not.

  • I would probably just use Windows Movie Maker for the time being.  I have some decent experience with it and not a lot of time to learn something else at the moment.  Thanks again for the help!

  • Great point! Thanks! @richardmclaughlin

  • @Blake-Brown The idea of multiple videos will also give the appearance of more content. Think about if you were landing on a YouTube page…would you rather see multiple videos, or just one?

Also, you’ll want to check if YouTube has a facebook tab application as well. I know Vevo does, but not sure about YouTube. That would allow you to have your videos in a static place on your fan page.

    Good luck!

  • @blake-brown I would upload all of them individually and then maybe every 3-6 months (depending on how many you have) put together a good lookin’ video/promotional piece using parts of the testimonials and info/images of your business/services.
