Using Facebook For County Political Party (4 posts)

  • Hi! This is my first post on the new forums here.

Anybody have creative ideas for a county political party on Facebook? I’ve found it challenging to reach out to folks since we don’t really have “customers” like a business does. I recently took over social media for the party and I’m constantly battling with our website guy who thinks we should send all traffic to the website. At the same time he wants our FB numbers to grow and is getting frustrated with me because we’re only adding about one fan a week.

I look forward to connecting with you all!

  • @jugglingwj While I agree that getting people to your website is probably the primary goal and gets you the most bang for your buck, there is a definite benefit to growing your social media presence.

Have you tried Facebook ads? Facebook ads are great for targeting geographic location, age groups, interests, job descriptions and likes that people have. It’s also great for targeting competitor pages fans etc.

You also may want to incorporate video and maybe live video of events that are going on, question answer setups etc.

Hard to give advice without knowing more about what you are doing, but those are just the top ideas that come to mind.

  • @jugglingwj I would also look at the http://www.facebook.com/search feature to find other similar pages that you could connect with and comment on.  Do you have a decent base right now?  Can you ask your current connections to suggest your page to other friends they know that would support your candidate?  And @joancrocker‘s Ads suggestion is good.  Make sure you are posting often about news from the county and party and try and get more interaction.

Has anyone had any experience with political Facebook Pages?

  • We just switched to a new page because the old one had the wrong custom URL that the person before me had made. That page had about 150 fans.

Right now, we have 54 fans on the new page. Posts rarely get Liked or commented on so it would definitely be good to grow a bit and get at least some interaction.
Ads are a possibility. One candidate that is running for office has 5,000 fans so I could target ads toward those fans.

We post at least every other day. Frequently once a day. Videos, news articles, blog posts, etc.

    Thanks for the tips!
