Using Facebook for a plumbing company (6 posts)

  • Hi All,

I help do online marketing for a local plumber.  He is asking about how he can use Facebook to promote his business.  I am NOT a Facebook expert, which is why I am looking to others for some ideas.

A couple of ideas I did have were-

    1.  To appeal to his current customer base to get them connected, liking his FB page, perhaps with some sort of incentive (25% off your next service) 2.  Get his current customers to offer a testimony. 3.  Offer a contest or some incentive to participate. 4.  Regularly post new comments/testimonies from satisfied customers 5.  Announce specials

As you can see, those are pretty half-baked.  What ideas can you suggest to help a business that wouldn’t naturally have followers (seriously, why would you follow a plumber, or a roofer?).

    Thanks!

  • I am totally going to rock this with you as soon as cyber Monday is over!

  • The plumber could share a brief plumbing tip of the day or week such as how to change a faucet washer, how to clean your shower sprayer or how to select new bathroom or kitchen fixtures. Include a related picture and always end the tip with a call to action such as “Call me about your plumbing needs … big or small …Ed at XYZ plumber at 000-000-0000 or ed@plumbingpros.com. Visit us online at http://www.plumbingpros.com.

I’d also suggest establishing a presence on LinkedIn and sharing the same type of tips on LinkedIn discussion groups related to your target audience such as your city’s residential builders, residential building landlords or commercial real estate facilities managers.

  • @tink-petruzziello — I’d love to hear about how you made the most of Cyber Monday for your business. Can you share your strategies with Social Media Examiner members?!

  • I was going to suggest exactly what Kathy said! Be helpful to the customer. There are so many tips on-line that you do not have to create ALL content, or trouble shoot all the problems. Find good links where you can send the customer to. Establish the Plumbing Company a helpful resource.   Not sure if Angie’s List is in your area, but it has worked wonders for a HVAC client of ours. When they were voted BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE for 2011…we published it everywhere!

  • I would add that another great way for small businesses to utilize facebook is to engage other local businesses. This plumber could definitely benefit from connecting with other complimentary businesses, such as cleaners or HVAC companies.

I’ve worked this way with several small businesses on social media profiles and have seen great results.

    Good luck!
