Using an e-commerce tab on your personal page (5 posts)

    I am VERY new to using social media to grow my business. I have a personal Facebook account and started a page for my business. I currently sell my items through a site called Etsy. I have an app on my business page that ties directly to my Etsy site. My question is this – can I also add this Etsy app to my personal Facebook page? Is there any FB regulations regarding selling off your personal site? Thanks DeDe

    @designeddecor – Since the Etsy app is specifically designed for pages (as per the app description), I would assume that you can only use it on your business page.

    For your personal profile, there is nothing keeping you from providing that link in your Info tab (or whatever they renamed it to on the timeline – I haven’t switched over yet).  You can also provide a link in your posts.

    Yep,  @lisaschulteis is correct – you can’t use any of the Apps on your Personal Profile.  They are only for Pages.  And technically personal profiles are not meant for selling, the business pages are supposed to be used for that purpose.  Facebook has this in their terms #4 (#4 in the list underneath) that you are not supposed to use your personal profile for your own commercial gain:  http://www.facebook.com/legal/terms  But they go on to list selling post space as the example.  I am definitely guilty of promoting my business in some of my posts.  And many people I know do as well.  
    I think the bigger danger of promoting your business too often in your posts is being unfriended or hidden from people.  So promote sparingly if you do.  What do others think?

    @andrea-vahl I totally agree.

    @designeddecor Setting up a Facebook Business Page for your Etsy business would be a great idea, then you have access to all the apps. You can still promote your page and your business with your profile but make sure to mix it up so as to not be too salesy and lose friends/connections.
