  • On a business page is it good practice to post as the business or yourself (to give it some personality and/or if there are multiple contributors?)

  • @blairrorani Hi Blair

Good question and one I don’t hear very often.

    Short answer: it all depends.

If you never post as your business then people may not make the connection between you and your business. Also, the posts from yourself will appear to the right of your page and not as full posts, so may be missed.

I would recommend to post as your page and just sign off with your name (for example, I use “^Russ” so people know they are talking to a real person and who that person is.

You could always post as your page and then add comments as yourself, if you really wanted to.

    Russ

  • Thanks Russ. Good advice and that’s how SME does it on their FB page. I shall follow suit.

  • @blairrorani on my  business page im always the business..

..BUT  sometimes i  talk more like me…as in  dh  hates this  but we got it anyway…. and most of the time i  talk   like i the  business…..as in   come to our  garden party….

i never thought of   posting  under my personal  name….most   probably  dont even  know my last name…so  it  might  even  be confusing…

  • I tried posting as myself but found that with the new timeline it will show up under the posts by others. So I am trying posting as the page and then switching and commenting as myself. A little more work but I am curious to see the results. Now I am liking and commenting on each post as myself.

  • @russellallert GREAT advice! A few pages I manage I actually started as a customer with them so I have posted “recommendations” and general posts on the wall but otherwise I post as the business itself. I don’t usually sign my name to business posts but for some of the pages I think that is going to work great! Thank you!

  • @alexandrabriggs @blairrorani No problem! Glad to be of assistance. :)

  • You have to make sure you are posting as the Page to have the post go out into the News Feed.  I see some Admins posting as their personal profile on the Timeline but no one will see that post unless they come to the Page, just like  @lorithueme said.
But I love the signing the name suggestion at the end of the posts.  There are a number of pages that do that, Sierra Trading Post, Fan Page Engine and of course Social Media Examiner.

  • I usually post as the business but sometimes go back in and like comments or photos as myself in order to move the conversation along or draw some attention to a post…

  • I recommend that my clients sign their posts with their name. If your business is a one-person shop, you could always design a profile image that contains both your photo and logo, so that people know it’s you posting. It’s so easy to forget to be human by throwing up our logos everywhere.

  • @blairrorani I do like  @russellallert‘s suggestion. For my association, I usually post and tweet as the “organization” and only add my name when it’s a truly personal opinion. I do the same for Twitter. On LinkedIn, I’m posting as myself to the Group (run by a Board member).

  • Hey @blairrorani,

    Here are my two bits.

    1. If i was managing my own small business & especially if im still trying to establish myself as an expert in my niche – i will post on the page with my own name. Doing so lets people both on my business page, as well as my personal network relate me to that particular business niche. This also drives some traffic to a new page.

    2. Once i grow and have established myself as an “expert”, i might change my position depending on that particular situation. For example, it i was launching an offer under my business, i would choose the business name for posting. But use my personal name when i’m responding to an individual fan’s question about the offer.

    3. But, if i were handling one of my client’s business page, since most of them are really big setups, i would stick only to their business name – and adopt the tonality as per their brand guidelines. Because in their case it is important that their brand gathers traction rather than any individual team member.

    Hope that helps,

Let me know what you think,

    @ShipraSaid
