Transfer from personal profile to facebook page (12 posts)

  • I’m about to transfer a new client from a personal profile to a facebook page.

They already have a facebook page with 9 likes so they haven’t claimed their name yet.

    Questions:

    1) Would it be best to delete this page and then transfer the personal profile into a brand new facebook page?
    2) I have the instructions of how to do it. However, has any of you encountered problems during the process that I should be aware of?

    Many thanks.

    Jorgen

  • @jorgenpoulsen

Can i ask why you want to delete the page and make a new one if they already have a few likes and content on a page? Why not just enhance the current one?

Also if they are using a person profile message everyone on that asking them to like the page instead

  • @pacey  In fact I did exactly like that today…

  • @ianpage, I should have explained myself better.

The existing page only have 9 likes and no content at all. Not even a status update or logo.

On their personal profile they have 1,500 friends.

  • Oh, then in my opinion you should make the change.

Don’t kill me if I’m wrong, but I remember that facebook will turn all your friends into fans. So you would have 1’500 fans VS 9…

Just remember to backup all the profile data! :)

  • Lets put this to bed once and for all, you can convert ALL of your “friends” into fans by using this tool  https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate

I have done this tens of times and transferred 1000′s of friends to fans without a single problem, you need to make sure you remove all content from the friends page because the only thing that gets moved is the people not your photographs, info, videos etc…

Please contact me for further advice it is so simple but LOTS of people are worrying needlessly about it

    @demorden   @jorgenpoulsen @pacey

  • @stevencole pretty sure that is what he is doing already

  • @stevencole  Thanks so much for the info.  I am doing the same for a new client.  My concern is the url.  The best url for this client is already claimed by the profile.  Everything I find tells me that when I try and register that url on the newly converted fan page, it will show as taken.  I did read Christina Warren’s post on Mashable that said that it may be possible to reclaim after 10 days.  What has been your experience with the url and reclaiming it after the conversion?

  • @carolstambaugh my experience has been one of 2

either it is a fan page with a small number of friends that neeed to convert over to “play by the rules” in which case i follow the link,

    or

a fan page with for example, 200 fans, but a friends page with (OVER 500 friends “the magic number) and the page URL is better….. FB will assit you if you have more than 500 friends to “merge” the pages and convert all friends to fans i can sympathise with your dilemma as i have never dealt with this either, i would just give it a go and worst case scenario they have to thing of a new name…. not a problem

@pacey not quite sure what your reply means.. please understand from my response I was merely accentuating the point that many people are (even in this forum) spreading rumours about the difficulty of this process… I want to help people through this :) peace x

  • Hello Guys…
I just recently found out that I could merge my personal fb with my business and I understand exactly how to do it so I dont need any technical help.

What I do need are answers to a few questions after doing some research on the topic.

1.) I have over 5,000 friends on my personal fb as well as 2700 subscribers. I have 1400 likes on my facebook fan page so when I convert my personal page to a fan page (prior to merging both fan pages) will my subscribers convert as well?

2.) When the conversion is complete, will I be able to comment on my friends status updates and walls?

3.) Will I be able to create a new personal page after the conversion under the same account? If I cant comment on friends walls, I will need to add my dearest friends to a private personal page to interact with them.

4.) I read some horror stories on another blog that some people who converted from person to fan page only got a small fraction of the LIKES converted. It this something to be worried about?

Can anyone help me solve this puzzle?

    Thank you!!!

  • I would also like to hear the answers to Nnenna’s questions!

    @nnenna-branding-specialist

  • @nnenna-branding-specialist @warrenveach

Your questions are really very unique!!

    1) While i will need to research on your first question, i can answer remaining questions. Let us do some research and find out if subscribers too will get converted into fans or not. (Hold on for this!)

    2) When you convert your profile into page, your friends are converted into your fans and hence you won’t be able to post on their wall or chat with them because facebook doesn’t allow a page to post on a person’s wall and also doesn’t allow to chat with persons (yes, you can chat with them in your page’s message inbox).

    3) When you convert your profile into page, it losses its original personal profile and so it will have no admin, so you will not be able to create new personal account under same account. You will need a fresh, new account.

    4) When i converted one of my client’s profile into page, it did not get all the friends converted into fans immediately. It took sometime but at later stage (about 2-3 days) they all got converted into fans, while in another case, i lost some friends and those did not converted into fans. This is weird, facebook is weird, you know that!!)
