Tough question regarding fangates (5 posts)

Topic tags: Fangate
  • Since we know if a person is logged In as a page and likes another page, said page will not register the like in reference to the number of likes.So … If the same person logged in as a page were to come across a fangate, would liking the page reveal the page ?… Scott

  • I was under the impression that fangate pages disappeared with the implementation of timeline…

  • @scottprock I’m not sure I understand the question. I think what you’re asking is: a person is using Facebook as a business. They go to a page, click on a tab, and it is fangated. So they click like, again as a business.

    Later they go home, log on to Facebook on a personal account, and go back to the page in question. Will they see that the content they liked? Or will they have to like it again?

    Is that what you’re asking? I think it is, but I’m not sure.

    In the even that it is what you’re asking, I think that if they manage the business page from their personal account, the like that they give SHOULD translate to their personal page. However, I haven’t tested that. If, like me, the Business Page is isolated, then if I like something with the business account, I’d have to go back to my personal page, and send another like to get access to the content again.

    I hope I answered your question!

    There was a bug in the timeline that was causing the page to not refresh when the like button was clicked. It has been fixed and fangates now work :-)

    @scottprock

    Yes the fangate works when you like a page as a page.

  • @jasonreilly that is sort of what I was asking ;-) …  @scottmadden answered the question I think.

    My concern is, if a person who is logged in as page (business owner with a page) comes to my fangate and likes the page, the page will not register a like because they are logged in as page and not their personal profile, but they will still get to see the “Fan Only” content without my page getting the like, which is the purpose of the fangate.

    Hope that makes more sense … Scott
