Topic of the Week 7/8/12: How do you get away? (15 posts)

  • With all our connectivity these days, how do you “get away from it all?”  Or do you?  Do you have someone do your postings, do you schedule them, or do you just unplug and say be back later?  Love to hear your thoughts during this summer season!

  • @andrea-vahl, i usually prefer it to be done by my guys who look after it in my absence. However, before i get away, i talk to them, plan out whole schedule and handover them some tips as well (as in most cases, they are newbie or not as experienced as i am) so that they can avoid making any mistakes. I also keep an eye on their postings and notify them of any error/mistake they have made or otherwise appreciate them if they have done something real good!

  • @andrea-vahl I’m a one man band, so I try to schedule some things, otherwise I just lay back!

  • on  faceboook  the other admin  does it.and  i   would probably leave some suggestions……i dont like to   advertize  that we are  gone….

  • @andrea-vahl, I like to schedule in advance my posts and totally unplug.  I make sure this happens by taking a cruise (which I did 2 weeks ago) and that way, I am forced to leave all the communique on dry land.   Since I am a one person show, I have to utilize the scheduling tools when necessary.  I do like that Facebook now allows you to schedule directly on there so that the posting is not penalized for using a 3rd party tool.

  • I don’t… unplug that is.. not for more than 2 or 3 days. It’s really something I need to work on in the next 12 months so I would love to hear your recommendations.I pre-schedule most of my tweets during the week every Friday, but other than that our clients still have questions, and expect to receive the online service they purchased…

Social media stops when I’m away (or slows down at least) but online sales and online post-sales follow up continues!

  • @ivankamenken  It’s very hard to get away completely – especially for solo-preneurs!  Some e-mails just can’t be answered by someone else (but they should!)  I’m working on it myself also.  I’ll let you know what I find :)

  • @andrea-vahl It’s a great question. I still haven’t figured out a smart answer for myself. My business is growing in bursts, so I suddenly find myself overbooked and unable to keep up the routine things. I’ve been learning how to be okay with letting things go a bit. It’s a process.

  • @dianebianchi, I’m with you! It’s just me so I try to schedule posts when I need to unplug or I just go off the grid for a couple of days. No matter how it’s done, disconnecting is definitely an important practice from time to time.

  • @dawnchitwoodrivers Yes, indeed! :)

  • I never get away because I have little business (little B&B) and we just started up.
I must confess that I’m a bit hooked on social media, so it’s really not a problem for me.  Sometimes I have a “free day” and then I spend even more time online (other days I have to do the cleaning, bedroom changes, cooking, …)
It is not a problem, but I can imagine that in a few years I will think different about this.

  • @andrea-vahl I am building a lot of automation and workflow for most standard email replies and online marketing. The setup in itself takes for-EVER… but eventually will give me more time to chill and relax (that’s what I keep saying).

I think a lot of the social media can be scheduled or outsourced, but I find it hard to maintain that level of engagement with scheduled tweets, blogs and facebook posts.

It still gives me a kick when I am riding my horse and my iPhone buzzes to let me know a sale was made. Best of both worlds!

  •  @andrea-vahl

I love the scheduled Facebook posts. They make life so much easier for me. I make myself take breaks as it is to easy to get stuck in this world for hours….. I do not allow other people to post for me, but have added a few people as admins so that I can take some time for me on the busy days. Since I love what I do, it is a fine line…

What do you do?  You always seem to be online

  • I agree @charlene-kingston- it’s nice to have growth and there is always going to be an ebb and flow.

I think the other thing for me is to not compare myself to others who are doing this or that (things that I think I should be doing) – I just need to keep my head down and do my work.
Yes, @randithompson – I’m probably online a little too much LOL.  I am taking a one week vacation coming up where I almost completely unplug.  I say almost because I still will be checking e-mail and responding to critical things (like things where people want to give me money LOL).

  • Vacation?  What is that? @andrea-vahl
