Topic of the Week 12/31/12: Do you have social media goals for 2013? (17 posts)

  • Happy New Year everyone!  I love this time of year!

I wanted to see if anyone else has specific goals for their social media sites.  What is something you would like to accomplish with your Facebook Page, or other sites?

  • happy new year  andrea….   my  facebook  goal is to get  better pictures on  and  to  try and  get  a  better  understanding of   the insights…and maybe   connect  pinterest   to the  fb page   a little  more…and of  course to  try and keep up to date with any  big   changes…and learn my  new  phone and its possibilities   for  our  facebook and  all the mobile issues………

  • @andrea-vahl My goal is to get conference registrations. Need to get crackin’ on setting up my GA campaigns this week!

  • @andrea-vahl Happy New Year Andrea !

Happy New Year to all SME Club members !

My goal is to build up a trusted and long lasting relationship/engagement with fans from targeted geography and thus building a loyal fan base. I want to also focus on facebook groups, discussing with peers. Apart from facebook, i would like to be more active on google+ and linkedin.

    Thank you!

  • I run my company’s social media pages, and my goal for this year is to create a content strategy for each of our page; where it’s pinterest, facebook, linkedin, twitter or goggle+ and then stick to it. Currently I just fly by the seat of my pants when posting things. It would be easier for others to post and for me to post more often if I have a plan for what to post.

    Happy New Year!

  • We’re very pleased with our first woobox sweepstakes with 17 days to go. That said we plan on running at least one 30 day sweepstakes monthly or more (2 per month) if we can get more vendors to jump on board.

Facebook has a new program for a $50/day ad spend (gulp) – you get an assigned ad manager and it’s something we’re looking at very hard against the back drop of rising adwords pricing.

Having seen a 30% increase in Pinterest followers since the Instagram TOS fiasco we’re scrambliing to capitalize on all the new eyeballs.
We’d like to add 30  - 60 product videos on Youtube using them as a platform to get some traction on Google+ using Hangouts
So the ultimate goal is to continue to try to “break” the social media to ecommerce conversion code.

  • Great goals everyone!  Love the Content strategy goal @kaitlin-vonderschmitt  – that makes everything so much simpler!
@annfurnivall  People love your pictures so that sounds like a good goal!  And Pinterest is a great place for you too.

@kc_kreative  Conference registrations are a great thing to tie in seamlessly!

@mitch-rezman – Sounds like you are off to a good start.  I’ve been approached by Facebook as well for the $50/day – I just don’t know if I can commit to that every single day :)

My goal is to really enhance my tracking metrics so that I really know what is going on when people get to my site from Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc – who is converting from where.
Anyone else have goals to share?

  • I have written a novel and would like to find out how Facebook can help with marketing it.

  • @retha-groenewald  Great goal!  Hopefully we can give you some ideas – search the forum for author and I think there will be some great threads.

  • Hi Andrea, thanks. I will do so.

  • I will be launching my on line strategy courses for small business this year, and a new business name with it.
i also want to be braver this year, and do the webinars I  keep putting off.

  • Our goals this year are to quantitatively report ROI from social media better to clients. Has anyone had success with any formulas/strategies or vendors? Thanks!

  • @kaitlin-vonderschmitt great idea, I’m new to this and have the same problem.  You idea/thought is a good start.  Will let you know how I go on this.

  • My goal is to learn how to utilize FB Fan sites, along with strategic use of FB advertising, to start generating sales of my oil paintings and begin building an online following.

My FB Fan site was just created this year. I was previously using my personal FB site and getting good feedback from family/frends.

I’m not interested in getting ‘likes’ as much as I’m interested in building up a base of collectors and potential followers who like my paintings.

It seems like a reasonable goal. I just need to figure out how to go about it. I DO NOT believe in the Dave Thomas / Wendy’s “If you build it they will come” mantra. I don’t beleive that at all.

If you build it, you have to take ACTIONS to make people aware of it, and LURE them to your site, and then do things to retain them as viewers.

    IMHO!

I’m still learning, but I’m realistic enough to know that just because you made it doesn’t mean you’ll be found and discovered!

If you want to see what I’ve done, and maybe provide ideas on how I could make it better, that’d be great. (My FB Site)  But mostly, I’m interested in learning from others who may have used FB and FB adversiting successfully with limited resources to build up viewership.

  • I’m in the same boat as you  @andrea-vahl. My main goal this year is to dial in our social media tracking so that I can understand, and report on, the influence our social media efforts have on conversions and ROI.

My sense is that Facebook is used primarily by our current customers, but it’s anecdotal at this point.

  • Always good to know for sure rather than speculation, right? @ck_smith :)

  • Yep, @andrea-vahl. Easier to sell your initiatives to others when you have data to back them up. :-)
