Topic of the Week 12/23/12: How much of a break do you take over holidays? (10 posts)

  • This week I thought we’d compare some notes on how much you post during the holiday week.  Do you just take the actual holiday off?  Do you preschedule everything?  What commenting trends do you notice – are your pages much less active?

    I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  • less active~~~i thnk it  would be  kind of a waste…    because i know they are   so busy  doing   all their stuff..

    .but  we will be  open  till 2 on  christmas eve…and our big sale  starts   the  day after…so i need to  at least post that….im  trying to  thnk of a good merry christmas   post…

  • I have per scheduled one post per day for the week after Christmas. These posts mainly centered on giving thanks for my wonderful fans, etc. I feel doing much more would be kind of a waste. But I do not want to take the week off completely!

  • I have scheduled posts for everyday mainly focusing on Xmas quotes

  • We have it all scheduled too, just some Xmas Ideas, and like Kim post that are centered on giving thanks to our fans. There won’t be much vacation happening though.

  • We normally post twice during the week and once on the weekend On our main FB page but will be posting (scheduled) once Monday & Tuesday – Our 2 other FB pages are scheduled with normal content for once a day
    Our weekly Sunday email went out but is was a “holiday card” with no marketing
    Retail is shut down Monday & Tuesday but we’ll be in to sort out week end web sales before we run out of town again – the internet never sleeps.

    Everything is scheduled but until I get a computer implant we monitor FB & our eCommerce site about 18 hours a day with a notebook & Kindle – just to dial in looking for smoke before a fire breaks out :-)

  • I usually just pace myself a little slower and just rerun two holiday-themed career-help blog posts — the one I just reran about learning from job disappointments from George Bailey’s disappointments in It’s a Wonderful Life is pulling really well  – http://www.getajobtips.com/2012/12/4-things-george-bailey-can-teach-you.html — I think because everybody gets a bit down over the holidays particularly if they are unemployed or miserably employed.

  • No break! I’ve been technically off the past three days, however, I am:

    1. busy building an interactive fan base that requires me to monitor fans responses as they are local and international from a “rough” crowd language wise and i work for a company in a country where you have to be extra sensitive to what is said or not said;
    2. holding down two full time social media jobs. one business closed for the “holiday”, but the others stayed “open” and therefore required content sourcing and prescheduling;
    3. finishing end of the month social media reports;
    4. and creating my social media plan for 2013.

    What time off! :)

  • Right now, it’s a blur between a day off and work because I’m constantly looking at the stats of my site to see how many readers I have today, how many followers on twitter, what message I’ve received on LinkedIn and of course facebook. In addition, I’m trying to learn as much as I can to improve my business and to venture out on newer things.

  • @andrea-vahl Hi Andrea! As I replied in Rich’s question, our Twitter feed is quieter this week and there were none on Christmas. Facebook has scheduled posts. Many of our followers are not publishing or have disconnected this week. Personally I am mostly disconnected except for my private news feed to keep up with the weather systems.

    This is a good time to slow down because the news machine will be starting up soon to promote our April conference. It’ll be non-stop until May! (We also have membership renews/recruitment).
