Today I converted a Personal Profile to a FB Page, however…… (12 posts)

  • I did the migration and it worked like a charm.

A little background. The company had already done a FB Page with no activity so we deleted it. However, it stays for 14 days in case you want to delete it.

That’s means since it’s admin by the same FB Profile we now have to switch back and forth. I guess that’s not a problem.

    Here’s the thing

    1) on the new FB Page there’s no drop menu for ‘Likes’ in the top left corner in fact there is not even an icon2) There is a link on the right hand side to ‘Notifications’ but no link in the top left corner.3) I’m not really sure what happened to the Personal Page we converted4) I’m not sure whether that has to do with the now ‘deleted’ FB Page5) the URL for the new FB Page is ……….com/pages/companyname/578974897. They have 1,600 fans so not sure why that is the case.6) We could not add another admin. Perhaps because FB was still crunching.7) The new FB Page did not show up in search results. Try yourself. name is: Ventaquadesign-Nice.

Anyway, this is fully working but I do want to understand and resolve these issues above.

    Jorgen

ps. This was my first time and it’s really easy. However, I was in the client’s office and he was watching. As soon as the new Page came up they only had 440 Fans and I was like ‘oh noooo’. After 5 mins all Fans has been migrated so please don’t freak out lol

  • I usualy don’t recommend migration because you lost page ratio and interactions ratio. So basicly is what you have now just a number of fans, but your post will not shown on their walls and they will see it only if they will go and check your page. But this are zero chances…

Normaly I would suggest that you make new page and with some contest or other kind of activity try to get people to migrate, while using your profile to post links and other things.

  • I’m not sure why it doesn’t have the same features as a regular fan page, @jorgenpoulsen.  You should be able to see your Likes.  One problem with the transfer is the URL doesn’t move with you.  So now that’s gone if you’ve set a custom one before.  Otherwise you can go claim a new one: http://www.facebook.com/username.
Not coming up in the search isn’t unusual.

  • @jorgenpoulsen @leopoldpanovi @andrea-vahl

Earlier i also did same for my nonprofit hospital profile, i converted it from page to profile and being frank i didn’t face any issue except i lost my friends who were there in the profile. Moreover, since you converted from profile to page, your profile username is also dead and you can’t select that old username for your news page.
So i also agree with leopold and don’t recommend such transformation.

  • @leopoldspanovi @moinshaikh @

@leopold what do you mean by page ratio? There was no interaction ratio that was calculated since it was Personal Profile.

@andrea The URL is not really a problem. How do I contact FB to have them look into this problem?

@Moin we didn’t lose any friends.

  • @jorgenpoulsen that’s great that you didn’t lost any fan :) , to contact fb, you may fill up this form (which is actually for suggestions), but upon receiving your problem they might respond you.

    Thanks,

  • @moinshaikh sorry there was no link to the form.

I do need to find out how to resolve the other issues so I know all the steps each time I convert.

  • @moinshaikh @andreavahl

    I followed this process http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFJwZ12GO7I

As you can see there no notifications or friends button in the top right corner and you can’t switch to personal profile in the top right corner.

In the video you can click the likes and see who they are but we can’t.

Perhaps it all changes once we can add an admin.

What do you think Andrea and Moin?

    Jorgen

  • @jorgenpoulsen, oh sorry friend for the typo,

    http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=ui_pages

this is just for reference, glad to speak with you

  • @jorgenpoulsen, i do agree with you Jorgen. Thanks for the video steps.

  • @jorgenpoulsen I mean interaction ratio. Facebook records your post and likes and comments and base on them he show your post on users wall. It’s important for your position – if you don’t have high ration your post are lower than others.

And those statistics are deleted when you migrate.

  • @moinshaikh thanks for the link.

@leopoldspanovic You don’t lose any stats as you didn’t have any on your personal profile anyway.
