Tips For Using Facebook For Nonprofits (8 posts)

  • Please share your tips for using Facebook for nonprofits.

  • We are still in the beginning stages, but we have a “page” where we are posting different things like articles and events.  We are slowly getting followers, but I am still learning on how to improve our exposure.

  • Thanks Monica. Hopefully tips provided by others will be valuable to you too.

  • It probably depends on the type of non-profit or focus of the non-profit. The one I work for has many members. We use it to:

    • promote some of our offerings such as webinars and podcasts
    • share news articles about our members in the news
    • ask questions, do polling of our followers (we unfortunately have a low reponse level & low fan base) about typical topics in our field or referring to a recent podcast
    • link to our cause.com page
    • follow all of our members who have FB pages and share their new and cool tools, tips and research findings.

In the near future, we will have a newly designed welcome page and tabs that will give fans and visitors more interaction in learning about who we are and what our members provide. As soon as we get our blog up and running, we’ll probably integrate that somehow as well.

  • Thanks Regina. Great information!

  • @karenolenick, thanks karen, i am one of those hungry Philanthropist looking to eat such food that feeds the society! Thank you for the question and thanks to all for contribution

  • @reginameeks Thanks ragina, same is the case here with me, i manage our nonprofit hospital page and do same activities as you do but unfortunately we have similar situation, a low fan base and low involvement in polling etc. However, i am not able to contribute much time due to other works, i am planing the full day work dedication to this, and once done, i am sure we will get it through!by the way, All the best to you too!

  • Hi everyone!

    @reginameeks, great ideas!

I also wanted to point out (because some of you are posting that you don’t have high engagement) Mari Smith always says that the real engagement starts when you reach from 500-1000 fans.

If you don’t have this many fans, maybe break down your strategy:

1- Creating awareness of your page and drawing active community members to like it. Take opportunities to do this off line as well. Invite them as you speak with them and meet them, include a call-to-action in your brochures, reading material, on your website, etc…

2- Decide what the goal is going to be for your page (news and updates, polls, an online community where members and like-minded individuals will be able to connect and create friendships, share stories and opinions, etc) and start taking measures to accomplish this through your posts.

3- Ask for engagement with strong calls-to-action (“what do you think?”, “How can we do this?”, Idea brainstorming .. when it’s a good cause or organization, people want to feel like their involved and helping to make a difference. This is great incentive!)

I hope this helps!Best of luck to you all :)
