Ticker versus News Feed (8 posts)

  • Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand how one moves from the ticker to the news feed.  Using my personal account as an example has me totally confused.

For instance: one of my favourite “likes” is Mashable.  Mashable only shows up in my ticker, never the news feed, despite the fact that I usually click on the articles as they appear in the ticker.  Other pages that I have “liked” appear immediately in my news feed.

I want to figure this out so I can manage my business page more effectively. i.e. – not be permanently relegated to the ticker.

    Thanks

    Susan

  • Usually Pages that you haven’t interacted with by clicking the Like or Commenting on them only appear in the Ticker and not in the News Feed.  I would have thought that clicking on them within the Ticker would then count as “interaction” but maybe that’s not the case.

But you are correct that Pages are disappearing from the News Feed and that makes it more critical to get the Likes and Comments.  I would do some experimenting to see if Mashable appears after clicking Like a few times.  Anyone else tried experimenting?

  • @andrea-vahl Good tip – I’ll try liking several of Mashable’s posts to see if that influences their appearance.

On a side note, Social Media Examiner used to show up in my news feed.  As of this morning it has retreated to the ticker.  :(

  • @swrightboucher  Darn it!!!  Try liking our posts too :)

  • Solved!

Thanks to @wchingya, one of the newest members on Social Media Examiner.

Ching Ya discovered that lists are the solution.  She created an easy-to-follow screen shot description which I just tried out.  It works.

We need to tell our FB followers about this.  I’ve been researching this question for 3 days and see that people everywhere are confused by the FB algorithm used to choose newsfeed items.  This means we are losing readership.

PS – Before I found Ching Ya’s solution, I tried liking and commenting multiple times on the pages themselves and the pages’ news items that were stuck in my ticker section.  It doesn’t seem to have any influence.

  • @swrightboucher @andrea-vahl @wchingya Awesome information! Andrea, thanks for the link from Ching Ya. There is so much to learn and apply. My brain needs a vacation!

  • Sorry guys just testing

  • Thank you so much @swrightboucher for sharing the workaround here. Really appreciate the mention. :) I’m glad the tip helps, @deairby. At this point, it’s all about trying and testing things out to get the maximum results on Facebook. Too much changes these days, isn’t it?

I have to agree with @swrightboucher, to like/comment on the pages we liked is not necessarily bring them into our feed, even though it SHOULD if based on the Edgerank formula. Problem is we don’t know how long we’ll see it in our news feed eventually, maybe days/weeks or longer. Sigh..

By the way, Merry Christmas to all. :) Hugs!
