Third Party API Like Sources (5 posts)

  • All – need help to understand if there is a way to identify the third party API apps that create Page Likes as reported under Like Sources in FB’s Insights. Client wishes to analyze where the Likes are coming from.

Identification is key, but so too may be actual counts from the apps.

Are there any tools available that would provide the insights?  Within FB Insights itself, it does report External Referrers and I’m assuming the third party apps are in that list. But not sure if the list is inclusive or if I misunderstand the purpose and use of this particular list.

Also would like confirmation that third party management apps, e.g., HubSpot, HootSuite, are considered as APIs and counted in the totals of API like sources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • @danielmckean  That is a great question Daniel.  @EmericErnoult Does AgoraPulse break this data out?

I haven’t seen anything like that in the programs I’ve looked at.

  • Hey @andrea-vahl and @danielmckean, you can find the sources of likes in the insights (you’re right, that is the external referrers) and it does include Tab apps as a source for likes.
So if you are running an app on your page, the insights will tell you how many likes you got from that.

As Hupspot and Hootsuite don’t have page apps, they cannot be a source for likes, so I ma not sure what your question is reagrding them.Cheers!

  •  @EmericErnoult. Thanks for your insight. After posting the question I did figure out HubSpot and HootSuite would not be included as an API source. As for external referrers, do you know if this list is inclusive? And thank you @andrea-vahl for making the connection.

  • @danielmckean, absolutely, Hubpspot and Hootsuite cannot be a referrer for likes. What “api” means here is that the source for your Facebook likes is a third party apllication within which it is possible to like the page (as a built-in action in the app, for example). So in most cases, you will not see a lot of likes in here.Yes, that list is inclusive, 100% of your likes should be in that list.
