@tagging to create a link – why doesn’t it work all the time??? (10 posts)

  • Question re: @tagging – do you know when/why tagging DOESN’T work?

    I just had a question on my YouTube channel about it, and I know for myself that sometimes I’ve tried to @tag in a comment, especially commenting as my Fan Page, and the link doesn’t come up, even when I’ve “liked” that page first.

    I thought it might be that they haven’t registered a Username (vanity URL) but I think it even happened on Mari Smith’s or SNA page too.

    Any ideas?

  • @angeliqueduff  I think it really boils down to a technology issue.  Sometimes it works and sometimes not.  Also, not all sites have the “@tag” compatiblity (though I think it’s becoming more common…?)

  • I was wondering this same thing this morning. I was able to tag only one person out of three in a post, even though all three have been liked/favorited by my page.

  • I’m so glad I’m not alone on this because it drives me crazy. I have the same issue even on my personal page(s) that I handle for Facebook. Sometimes merely typing in a person’s name will bring up the auto options for you to tag them, sometimes typing @and their name works, and sometimes none of the above work. What gives?!?

  • Right…glad it’s not just me. I’m also wondering if it has to do with the specfic Fan Page turning OFF the option “allow others to post on page”…is that what you mean @devanianjali?

  • No, thats if you don’t want people posting wall posts (like tagging your page in photos, writing on your wall etc..) what I mean is more of a ‘behind the scene tech issue’ where the site is just not cooperating. :)

    @angeliqueduff

  • I find the tagging very frustrating.  We’ve had it on Social Media Examiner as well – we have Liked Mari Smith’s page for a long time and weren’t able to tag her not that long ago.  It is very random and quirky.

  • Sounds like a lot of us find it frustrating, especially since it’s a bit random.

    Hmm, dare I suggest that maybe FB needs to focus a bit on working out bugs and providing good customer service when issues arise (they are a bit impossible to contact), instead of changing all the time ;0)

  • You just need the schedule for the Internet pixies. It stops working when they are on break or gone home for the day.

  • @abigailgorton …where is the “like” button :)
