tag people in status updates on pages (8 posts)

Topic tags: status updates, tag
  • is this possible?

  • I’m not sure that it is possible. After reading your inquiry, I tried to do so by placing the “@user name” in the status field as I would do so from my personal page.

It never did suggest the name of the individual that I was trying to tag.

However that being said, I don’t think I would appreciate being tagged in a businesses post unless the comment were truly directed to me, and not just a ploy to get me to the page.

To me, that would be like tagging me in a pic, or video just to get me to look.

  • @safinaiqbal I believe the only way to tag something on a business page is when logged into a “personal” account and not as the page. I am in agreement with Warren though that I would not like to be tagged by a business. It is reminiscent of the mass tagging of Twitter that I generally ignore.
On business pages you can direct message someone who has interacted with the page, that would be a better route in my opinion.

  • thanks for this.  i only wanted to tag a the competition winner.  will message her instead!

  • I have found that if a fan on my business page makes a comment, as the biz page I am able to tag them in my response (in the same conversation string). But in general, a biz page cannot tag a fan. You could see how that feature would be abused.

Also, be very careful about using Facebook to message winners. That’s a violation of Facebook rules/terms of service. Since all sweepstakes, contests must be held through a 3rd party app – these apps also have the ability for you to notify the winner from within those apps.  Just FYI.

  • I have been able to tag a person in a conversation from a post.  For example, if this person has already commented on a post and I want to address him specifically, I just start typing his name and a drop down with suggested people appears, and I can answer his question.  THis is the only way I have seen to Tag directly on Page.

  • Yep, @alexandrabriggs is correct and you can only tag personal friends in a wall post but even that doesn’t always work.

  • Here’s something I’ve found. If I’m trying to tag someone that I believe I should be able to tag (see explanations above), and it doesn’t work, try refreshing the browser tab. I’ve had that magically fix Facebook problems.
