Super important article to read on Facebook’s changes. (12 posts)

  • Have a read of this:

    http://dangerousminds.net/comments/facebook_i_want_my_friends_back

I’ve been posting in other feeds on this topic of Edgerank and total reach/loss of interaction with FB followers…

    I highly recommend.

  • Is this really happening?? I noticed the reach volume on my company pages have dropped quite a bit.  This would be critical when I plan for my marketing budget…

  • Interesting post. The talk on this has been around for a while now. This is one of the more hysterical ones with a real “conspiracy” slant / feel to it.

There has been a down turn sure but I don’t think it is as severe as some are saying and it just means you have to produce better content if you want to be seen.

There is a war for news feed space going on between friends, pages, promoted posts, ads, stories etc. and the ones that will win commercially will still be the ones with the best content and the most value to offer IMO.

  • @sheridanmills THANKS,  good  report….. on the situation…..but not on WHAT  TO DO…i liked the comments too…my customers are there on  facebook  i  need to  stay….so  waiting  for the thought leaders to chime inand  give   some  good direction …

..   hardly anything ive read  talks about the pictures  doing worse…..but i  know  thats happening on   at least  4 business pages  i know of for sure….

i dont think  good  content is the answer…many  had  that and are still falling..

…if  you had  very  poor or average  content to start with then sure you will improve  with better  content…….we all need  good  content…..mine  was  real good….my pictures often got  way over  30%  reach and now  get way less……  .

  • I think the important thing to look at is the Talking About This number.  Reach has been going down, @tiffany-tang-matsumoto @sheridanmills @annfurnivall @scottlinklater and I know we’ve been talking about the reasons why – is it an algorithm change or change in calculation, etc.

I really don’t believe that Facebook will let people change platforms.  They will figure out the sweet spot on showing pages in the news feed for free vs. paid.

Plus, what I like to point out is how many of your Twitter followers see your posts?  Since they don’t publish that number, no one can get angry about it LOL

  • @andrea-vahl my talking about this is way down…big concern…. …hoping for the sweet spot!,

  • Facebook finds itself  in a position to do many things that would have only been a thought before. Before what? Before it had to answer to share holders and board directors.

  • @scottlinklater

lol.. when I see this https://www.facebook.com/georgehtakei/posts/545074158855375  I tend to think that it’s about more than good content people want to engage with..

I think the reality is that FB raised the bar higher.. so even if you were getting good engagement.. now you have to be even better.. and if you are not.. FB will reduce your ER even more.

  • Changes usually come around when share holders, board directors, and stock reports get thrown into the equation.

  • There are also other factors to consider like:

    • How many of your Fans visited Facebook the day you created your post
    • Some Fans blocked your News Feed rather than to unlike your page
    • Some of your Fans are possibly fake profiles
    • How many Fans are inactive this month

I also noticed a drop in my page’s reach but is now thinking how can I change the lower reach to better suit me…

  • Not sure if this is the best feed to post this on or not, but I have noticed similar drops in my Reach and Talking About numbers. My best posts are now getting about 25% of the reach they were just a month or 2 ago. However, an interesting change that I have seen is in the interation of others with the “Posts by Others”. In the past few days (maybe a week) the number of people liking and commenting on other peoples posts to our page has gone up dramatically. It is great engagement and I’m happy with it, but I want to be able to replicate it if we are doing something right.

    Any thoughts? @andrea-vahl

  • i think that has to do with your favorites @chris lay

I’m guessing lots of people favorited our page and then they see what I like.
I noticed the same thing in post by others.
But, it’s different, before I like it, it stays pretty idle, after I like it,and it’s a good post it explodes usually.

i’m guessing then it appears in the people who subscribe and favorited as “page” liked post on its wall
