Stop Likes from Reporting Spam on Posts by Others (4 posts)

Topic tags: Facebook, Spam
  • I’m having troubles with a fan reporting “Posts by Others” as SPAM on my client’s Facebook Page.  For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to stop this? Is it possible?
Even though we (the admins) are not reporting/marking as Spam, a certain Fan/Like thinks we’re taking down their content when it’s really another fan reporting them. This doesn’t look good for our client. Can it be stopped? I’m not seeing it in Admin or Manage Permissions.

Thanks for the help … anyone!!

  • @lacadian  I haven’t dealt a lot with spam reporting.  So are you saying when this other person – not related to your Page at all, reports one of the posts by another fan as spam, their post disappears?

I wouldn’t have thought it would disappear – I’ve reported things before and I think they just stayed there but were somehow “tallied” against that person – but now I’m not sure.

Do you know who the fan is who is doing the reporting?  I wouldn’t think you could track that either but just wanted to see if you knew somehow.

  • Hey @andrea-vahl, that’s exactly what’s happening. Our “Like” is reporting a post from another Page. I know the Like/Fan doesn’t like the post, but we can’t see who’s doing it. It doesn’t show up in the Activity, unfortunately. Besides, Facebook says all reporters are anonymous, no matter what you’re reporting, so it makes sense that we, the Page, won’t see it either.

It’s just frustrating because we, the Page, have a strict policy that we don’t take down posts unless they are using profanity or are slandering another “person” (not the brand). So, as much as we love that our Likes/Fans are taking up for the brand, we don’t want the one who’s posting it thinking that we, the brand, are deleting it. It gives a lot of power to the Likes.

  • That is interesting @lacadian  I think I might even post something along the lines of “we are not deleting posts but it seems that someone may be reporting posts on our page as spam when they aren’t and so they are disappearing….” or something like that so people know it isn’t you.  Do you see the post initially and then it’s gone later?
I wouldn’t think that one person would have so much power over a post by another person.  I experienced an issue with a really nasty, hateful page was still kept up when we were reporting it over and over.  It took a huge effort by many people to get that page down.  So I’m surprised that one report could remove a post.  Interesting….

Anyone else have any thoughts on how to best deal with this?
