Strange but true, today was Stick Your Tongue Out Day (who makes these up?). Facebook is full of fun and funny stuff. What special days like Stick Your Tongue Out Day have you used to get visibility?
Would you invent your own ‘Day’ to get your word out there?

Man I wish I had known @richardmclaughlin! I would have totally changed my avatar. I think Mashable’s Social Media Day has been a great success and then there is the one for Tweetups too. Steve Jobs day was a pretty good success too.
It would be fun to have something like that really catch on.

@richardmclaughlin @andrea-vahl Why not to create SME Club (Social Media Examiner’s) day? We are now 6000+, don’t know what would be perfect date/time but pretty sure if this happens, it will be a memorable day for all of us!

July 22nd is both Pied Piper of Hamelin Day and Summer Leisure Day. Maybe we can get some Social Media experts to leisurely do something.

I think using these sort of novelty holidays are a great way to increase engagement on your Facebook page! For example, the 19th was “Get to Know Your Customer Day” … so I did a status update with a chance to win a prize when they tell us what brought them to the page and what they’re hoping to learn. 127 likes and 120 comments later, not only did it increase my engagement but I also learned a great deal about who’s on our Facebook page and why. Do a Google search for “bizarre” holidays and you’ll find a few sites with complete listings.

This one is not about fun, but it’s effective.
American Express does a great job at promoting their “Small Business Saturday.”
They offer free tools for those in social media marketing. One of my stores has participated in Small Business Saturday and has had success with it.
