Steering user generated content contest entries (4 posts)

  • Hey SME folks,

Quick question — we are running a contest for a client. It’s called “Your Golden Moment” where users upload photos. The one with the most votes wins a gold coin with their image on it. We were expecting moms holding babies and such, but are getting lots of party pics instead.

Not accepting certain entries would probably turn into a mess, so I don’t want to do that, but how could we get more wholesome pictures?

  • @robpeck What if you added a caveat, something like “Submissions will receive  Bonus points if there are 3 generations in your photo” or whatever is relevant to your client.Say if it was an auto repair shop you could do 5 points for photos with automobiles in them, 8 points if the car is older than 30 years. That was even if no one voted for them they could still get some points so they wouldn’t feel bad if no one voted for them. Good luck. I did a contest for a client (Event Planners) and the client wanted to know what their favorite company party was. The results didn’t mention the fun or activities just the drinks, etc.

Excellent advice, sorry for not replying sooner.

I didn’t want to change contest details post-launch, so I decided to run a small Facebook Ads campaign targeting only married women 40+. The nice baby pictures that we were hoping for came rolling in.

    So far so good overall:

  • @robpeck @ellenpartal Good advise on how to get creative!

Facebook ad campaigns + sometimes manually contacting page admins with that community can work wonders!

Also, sometimes managing entries is not such a bad thing because secretly, entrant also knows that he/she is not complying with rules!

Shameless plug – please do take a look at Photo Contest and other apps on SocialAppsHQ (largest FB app store).
