2 months, 1 week ago: Hello,
My first post here, really glad I have found this community of like minded social media marketers! After searching through about ten pages and not finding my specific issue I have chosen to start a new topic.
My background: I have several years of recreational social media use, and have recently started my own small business managing social media pages for entry-level companies that are now investing in social media. I would be very appreciative of any responses anyone can give on a problem I have.
Scenario: I recently took over the management of a business page (wines/spirits) that has 2200+ likes (yes, a small number). Recent rebranding has put in new guidelines around the company name where all the letters must be capitalized. Second, beyond the capitalization issue they wanted the name of the page to change as well as the page username. I have successfully achieved all of the above for them by creating a new page. This page has 2 likes.
The problem though is a) they don’t want to lose the existing 2200 fans b) because the name of the page has changed slightly, a merger of the two pages is not possible, also according to FB, the merge occurs where the small merges into the big.
The Question: What options are available to me? The company has a global trademark on it’s name. Do I put in a request to FB asking for the page with 2200+ likes to be changed to the specific name the company wants, or do I just convince the company that 2200 is a small number and it’s ok to start over?
