Spy on the other guys??? (8 posts)

  • Is there a way of find out what type of ads my competitors are their running? Is there some type website I can find that will tell me keyword or subject that people are search for on Facebook?

  • humm…not sure about that BUT, if you can see how many people are in you nitch market by using the Facebook Ads but NOT actually running the add.

    Here’s how:

    1. Go under the “Ad” section (just type in “Facebook Ads” in the help section and they’ll give you the link)
    2. Fill out the form on the first form the comes up
    3. THEN — fill out the: Demographics, Location (if applicable), Interest (which is basically the field you work in – or a target nitch), Demographics (if applicable – put in the age range/gender you’re targeting), Connection (you’ll most likely want to keep this as “Anyone” which is the default).
    4. Lastly: Do NOT press continue (unless you really want to create the ad:))

Look on the right side of the screen and you’ll see a number. The number represents the amount of people on Facebook that have an interest in YOUR nitch.

If you were going to run the ad, the number would show how many people it would reach in your nitch.

  • Another way to research keywords–is to go to adwords.google.com and click on Tools and Analysis. Run some key words and then you can see who uses them.

  • There isn’t a keyword tool in Facebook like there is in Google, unfortunately @scottieschufford-anderson  But given that, Facebook search is really bad and I don’t think people are using it in the same way – they are looking for friends or maybe groups or a specific page name.
You also can’t tell who is behind the ad itself or who created the ad.  Usually you can assume that if an ad is going to a Fan Page then it’s the owner of that page who has created it.

You can see all the ads that are currently available to your own profile (based on your demographics and interests) by going to http://www.facebook.com/ads/adboard  Again, that’s not all the possible ads on Facebook, it’s just the ones that are targeting your profile.

  • @scottieschufford-anderson the Facebook ad structure is based on location, age and interest not by key words. The best way to track what competitors are doing is by subscribing to their RSS feeds and pulling these into Google Reader. This will give you insight of what they are up to.

A strategy I’ve seen used several times is to create ads that target a competitors market. For instance, people that add “x” company or brand as their “interest” your ads would be presented to them.

  • Cool beans!!

  • @dhsllc~ Hadn’t thought of that.  Thanks for the info!  Now if I can only remember it until it’s time to start advertising the courses again . . . . that will be a trick!

  • I know that I do it on a regular basis – I ‘Like’ all similar businesses and competitors pages to see how they’re doing and what kind of posts are getting the best response.

I am pretty exited about this new Yesmail product and hope to be able to attend the demo next Thursday. http://www.destinationcrm.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=80692&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
