Hi Everyone, Although I am a six month old Social Media contributor, I’m immersing myself deep into it and I’d like to gain more hands on experience. Does anyone know someone who is looking for some assistance with Social Media (Twitter, Facebook, etc). My experience is as follows: I currently maintain three Facebook fan pages, have two twitter accounts, one basic website (a work in progress), three blog accounts. I am not a professional and not sure if I want to be one. For now, I just want explore, learn, and help others if I can.

Hi Madeline, I would first say, do not sell yourself short. My goodness it sounds like you’re on the right track for sure. But I would just do what the rest of us have done, learn from the Mari Smith’s, the Amy Porterfield’s, the Gary Vaynerchuk’s, the Jason Falls, etc etc..AND OF COURSE our own Andrea Vahl. Join some social media LinkedIn groups, sign up for newsletters. Another great resource is Marcus Sheridan. If you do not know who these people are Google them. Madeline, If you haven’t been snapped up yet, I would love your help building audience for my blog, Getajobtips.com, on Facebook. I’m good at marketing on LinkedIn, but bad, bad, bad on Facebook. I started a company page there and haven’t been conversing with people or posting my articles or promoting the page or anything so there is nowhere to go but up with that. I could also use help with Twitter. I’d also love to do things to help build SEO … In exchange, I’d be glad to help you learn to spread your wings on LinkedIn if interested.

@kathybernard That sounds great. Let me have a look at your site and see what it is about. The only area I have minimal knowledge is with the SEO. But my learning in that area is a work in progress. @mchillemi Something else that I did when I was starting out was contact a local small business owner who had little knowledge of social media and needed a lot of help. I reached out to my dog’s veterinarian who holds clinics at area pet stores at discounted prices. I offered to assist with his social media campaigns and set up as a thank you and donation for all he has done for my rescued pup.
I gained a lot of experience walking him through the process and, for the most part, was given free reign to tweak their pages and get everything set up. The praise and thanks were great reinforcement and it has helped me learn the best ways to teach and convey the elements of successful social media.
I have done some volunteering for virtual businesses but I would say having the experience helping a local individual whom I could communicate with face-to-face along with virtually gave me an entirely new perspective and was truly a learning experience.
As always, keep following the clubs, read everything you can and, when possible, attend conferences. The knowledge I have gained from all of these elements has been priceless!
