SOC 2 audit – does anyone care? (4 posts)

  • Hi everyone,

I work for Shoutlet, which is a social media management platform.  Today we announced that we passed an SOC 2 audit and are the first social media platform to do so.  This brings up two questions:

Does anyone in social media know what SOC 2 is? Does anyone care?

    Steve

  • @stevenjheld First congratulations!  Secondly, no I had no idea what that was.  I tried googling it and still didn’t quite understand :)  What is it?

  • I should have provided more information in my original post.  I am familiar with a SAS 70 audit, and SOC 2 apparently is the new SAS 70.  Just like the age 40 is the new 30.  Or so I hope.  Anyway, here is some more info:

The SOC 2 audit standards, formerly known as a SAS 70 audit, were developed by The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to establish a common audit approach to best practices regarding policies, procedures, and processes related to security, availability, confidentiality, and privacy for demonstrating a strong system of internal controls.

I could see this being important to financial and medical institutions.

  • @stevenjheld – Congratulations!

I have never heard of SOC 2 either.  However, I can see how it would be important to the financial and medical institutions.

In terms of FB, I would definitely put a post regarding your certification with a link to your press release.  Who doesn’t want to celebrate great news?

If you think it is important to put an icon on your welcome page, then I think you would definitely need a “click here to learn how this benefits you” and have it go to a custom tab with the explanation.  It really depends on whether you think this is important to your visitors.

Obviously once you have connected with a potential client for whom this would affect, you would want to discuss it directly with them.

    Congratulations again!
