Silly Question #100 (11 posts)

Topic tags: followers, likes, thanks
  • Hi All, very silly question, but I had a nice person ‘Like’ my page and I wanted to reciprocate or send a message saying thank you so I opened my ‘Like’ panel and found him and clicked on his name and went to his Timeline page but I cannot see any way at all I can send him a message….

What is the best way to thank a person (not a page) who you are not friends with, who likes your Page?

And if this question is just too fundamental, feel free to send me to the haughty corner (ha ha)

  • Well… you are right. As a page you cannot post on personal profiles. If he left a comment, responding to that comment is a big reciprocation,. Some pages do a “Welcome to new fans ___, ___, and ___” . That is a choice for you. I personally do not care for it, it feels too much like ‘noise’ or just trying to show up in their timeline, but that is just an opinion.

  • @abigailgorton Hi Abigail – I agree with you…looks a little spammy. I was hoping just for a private message of thanks but that is not possible as a Page I understand. I visited his page as ‘me’ and did a friendship request….but now I think that was too much OTT really…..

Hummm…..maybe I need to think in terms of not having to say thanks every time so as to avoid looking to desperate or spammy!?

  • @simonjohn There are rumors pages will soon be able to send private messages, but only to people whom have made comments on your page. You could do a general thank you once a week to everyone who has liked your page.

  • Just respond on your page if you can. It’s a little like stalking otherwise. :)

  • @kathyweirKathy, that would be terrific – shall look out for that.

@casmccullough Thanks Cas – at the moment it sounds like that is the only way!

  • i just  hit  like  under  the  comment. @simonjohn

  • @annfurnivall Hi Ann, what a great idea….! Particularly when you don’t know the person, but still want to acknowledge them in some way..

    I Like that!

@kathyweir I’ll do just that Kathy…..I need all the help I can get, that is for sure!

  • @simonjohn First of all, there are no silly questions!  Secondly, sometimes you can send people messages who aren’t your personal Facebook friends if they have the Message button enabled.  But it would have to come from your personal profile.

I don’t recommend this at all because many look at this kind of thing as an invasion of their Facebook profile and it might look a little “stalkerish”.  Plus since the message is coming from your personal profile, depending on your Page name, they may not know that you are associated with that Page.  So I think it’s ok to thank new Fans on your Page status if you like.  Or use something like the Fan of the Week app to acknowledge fans that participate.

  • @andrea-vahl- Fan of the Week app – what a great idea…..and thanking on my Page wall sounds good too…..
