Should there be Unlike button in facebook? (13 posts)

  • If we can express our joy to a post why should we have ability to express thumb down feeling by hitting unlike button. So why not facebook shall introduce a thumb down / unlike button? Do you agree?

  • I thinking this would just cause a lot of fighting/bitching would leave it out myself

  • I agree with @pacey

The like is a nice, positive approach, and always feels good when we get one. Dislike would be rather negative and twist and would not feel so good. Then it would start being like a “battle of likes vs. dislikes” – Not somewhere I’d be interested in going. Actually, would turn me off to Facebook for business, to tell you the truth.

  • I admit there are times when I see some rather hateful or dis-tasteful posts that I wouldn’t mind having a “unlike” button.

  • @pacey @melissaagnes agree to all, we all shall look for positive points in others!  @warrenveach me too sometimes feel this :(

  • I did notice recently that SEOMoz has a thumbs down button related to their posts. I think that works in their context, but not sure it would be helpful on Facebook where the goal is social engagement. Most of us just ignore or “unfriend” those we don’t like or agree with. Not sure it would be a good idea for broad/general use.

    My 2 cents…

  • You can also report content or Pages to Facebook.  But yes, I agree with  @phil-mershon and  @melissaagnes that it’s better to look at the positive.  On YouTube there is a thumbs down and I always get a little irritated when I get one of those on one of my tutorials!

  • @Andrea-Vahl, as a follower of yours, I somehow can not imagine you getting a thumbs down on any of your content.

Bottom line, I always think it’s best to take the high road and, as my mother would tell me, say nothing if you have nothing good to say.

  • That’s what I thought,  @susanhand LOL :)  Thanks for the thumbs up – and I agree, your mother had good advice

  • @phil-mershon @andrea-vahl @susanhand thanks to all for fueling positiveness here! If we agree to someone we shall shake hands but if we don’t agree then shall not hit a punch, just ignore that person! What say?

  • I think my resistance to Facebook may lie in the fact that I just don’t care if people like me or not! (It’s my mother’s fault.) :-)

  • Yeah a Dislike button is a bad idea for Facebook. Especially because of brand pages. The last thing a business wants/needs is 1000 dislikes on a post and 10 Likes. Sure YouTube has it, but it’s a different atmosphere there and people don’t pay attention to the thumbs up or down.

  • Hmmmmmmm… I was about to say I wish there were a dislike button, but then this discussion changed my mind.

    (I love this place)!
