Shorten your FB URL without using a URL shortening service (6 posts)

Topic tags: Facebook URL
  • Just stumbled across this, and for those of you who don’t know, I thought it would make for a great tip to pass along.

Did you know when displaying, or entering your Facebook URL (for profile or page) you can shorten the Facebook domain to just FB??

So … take the facebook.com url and use fb.com it will go to the same spot, and YES if you tack on your username for profiles or pages after the / it will work too.

In other words (using SME as an example …)

    Take - http://facebook.com/smexaminer

    and shorten it to …

    http://fb.com/smexaminer

    Pretty cool huh?

  • @scottprock That is a very  interesting find.  Thanks for sharing it. I had to sort of play around with how my name would come up but got it after a few trys.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @scottprock That is a good find for people who have longer page names…. too bad you can’t track that short url, or can you?

  • @prestonodenbrett there’s no tracking on it as it’s owned by Facebook.

I saw it on a list of URL’s that were not clickable, and I thought it might have just been a mistake or entered as a habit for shortening Facebook, but it worked. I then tried it on my own profile and pages.

  • Thanks @scottprock.   This is good to know.

  • @scottprock – Yep, you are right it does work.. I guess tracking is when they become a fan :) - Like it better then bitly…Thanks for sharing.
