  • Quick question – if you share a post and then other fans share it from your page, does this help your edgerank score or does this go to the person who originated it – or both?

  • @pollyb Interesting question polly, really tough to answer unless experimented and experienced. Let’s test it now. Thanks for initiative. By the way, any special reason for this question or just for curiosity?

  • @moinshaikh  Just a thought I had when I was sharing a post from someone else. It got me thinking about how this affects your edgerank score

  • @pollyb

Shares are a very important aspect of EdgeRank. Posts from “Your” page instantly goes into the “Sharer’s” feed for all of their friends to see. This can cause a viral effect on Facebook.

The trick is to get the fan to “share” a photo, video, etc. with their friends. Make the content something their friends would actually want to see.

Shares, comments and to a lessor degree likes, will tell Facebook that fans are interested in your page content.

Therefore, your number one goal is to create engagement with your content. Engagement builds “Your” EdgeRank, EdgeRank builds exposure in the news feed.

Intuitively, I would think your content on some other page would have to be actively engaged in the same manner for them to increase EdgeRank.

    Hope that helps.

  • @pollyb So I think the Weight comes into play there.  Edgerank is a combination of Affinity, Weight and Time Decay.  Affinity is based on past interaction with that particular user, and Weight is base on the type of post and also how popular it is.  If it is getting shared a lot and getting a lot of comments, it is more likely to be be seen in the News Feed because Facebook thinks others might be interested in the post too.

Here is a good article on it that may help.  http://www.insidefacebook.com/2011/12/27/edgerank-and-graph-rank-defined/
