Setting Default Photo on Photo App (13 posts)

Topic tags: Facebook, photo app, Timeline
  • I know how to set a thumbnail for all the other apps on the new fan page/business page timeline but I can’t see how to set one for photos. It seems to show the last uploaded image which is fine unless the last uploaded image was the main thumbnail and then it looks silly!

Going to Manage > Edit Page > Apps > Edit Settings for Photos doesn’t give a thumbnail image option unlike all the other apps.

    Any suggestions?

  • @mikecartmel  you can’t that I know of but this is a work around – To keep a particular photo as the default you need to do the following – http://ustandout.com/facebook/how-to-change-the-fan-page-tab-image-of-facebooks-photos-app

  • Thanks Karen for the link.

It’s a bit of a nuisance to say the least to have to do that every time a new photo gets uploaded, especially if you want a particular thumbnail for branding purposes.

Mind you, the easy answer to my particular problem is simply to upload another picture!

    Thanks again for the link.

  • @mikecartmel, Yes.  I was going to suggest uploading the pic you want as the thumbnail again. I had to do this as well.   I hope this helps.

  • @mambamedia, Great article and resource.  Thanks for sharing.

  • @mambamedia@seleanaw Turning it all into a positive. I always ask my fans to post photos to the page. I can now tell them that the last photo posted will be the “cover photo” for the tab.

  • @mikecartmel @seleanaw  good thinkin Mike! Looks like its very sunny where you are lucky for you!

  • @mambamedia Yes, normally.  This morning was about 45 degrees though. Just a little chilly for my taste. :-)

  • @mikecartmel That is a good way of looking at it! The way the tab was built to function upon conversion to timeline is to always be the most recent uploaded (or tagged) image depending on whether a personal profile or business page

  • @alexandrabriggs I was just surprised that it was the only tab that can’t be customised to some extent. You can’t even move it to another position. I can imagine some instances where the business would want to highlight another app instead depending on what they are trying to achieve with their page. Facebook has obviously decided that the Photo tab is very important yet it isn’t really a photo sharing website :)

  • @mikecartmel It’s true it is not a photo sharing site, but with all the layers added to photos (location tagging, date tagging, etc.) they have become more integrated with the timeline. I am not saying it is ideal that you can’t make adjustments to the tab, but I can somewhat see why this one area there is limitations on making changes.

  • @alexandrabriggs A good point well made. I will now forgive Facebook :)
