Selling Facebook Posts (17 posts)

  • What do you think about selling posts from your business page?   Have you done it?  Would you consider it?

  • Hello Randi…
I’m not a fan of selling posts as I feel our social community would not appreciate it.  We are a restaurant in a tourist area, so we try to cultivate a sense of camaraderie with our neighbors.
I appreciate a more organic approach.  It may take a little longer, but for us it’s worth the wait.
    :)

  • @randithompson  @elle During conference time, I incorporate selling registrations in posts about new speakers, sponsors, sessions, etc. It is our marquee event and we don’t sell much else (memberships (different ball of wax!), directories and job postings). Otherwise, we’re comfortable with organic growth too. It’s more about being a thought leader in our industry.

  • @elle Thank you Lynn, I had not thought of this until someone contacted me about purchasing a post. I am going to try some during this Black Friday Weekend to see how they work.

    Randi

  • @kc_kreative  Very interesting what you are doing with them. I was thinking of the possiblites of offering a limited amount of them for holidays and special occasions.

    Randi

  • I have never done it, but if the topics are related and fit the audience I would think it doesn’t do any harm. I would dose it carefully and still put my main effort on organic growth and ‘natural’, non-monetary cooperations with other pages.

  • @randithompson If you position it as a “sponsored” post perhaps it will be better received. I have never minded an occasional promotion esp. if it’s for an event or special deal…

  • @kc_kreative Great idea Kristy!   I did put out a post asking if anyone was interested during the Black Friday Weekend. I was suprised at the response.  I am going to see how it works this weekend.

    Randi

  • @claudiapoeckl   I agree Claudia.  These are ads that people are submitting for the Black Friday Weekend. It will be interesting to see where this might go… or not.

    Randi

  • That was interesting.   I did sell posts during the Black Friday weekend. The surprise was in how much was sold!  One woman promoted her Twitter course and had (as of yesterday)  97 people sign up for her paid course.  Another fan promoted her “stuffed ponies” and SOLD OUT.

This really showed me the value of my business page…it also was a reminder that I need to monetize my pages more. When I think of the $$$ I lost simply by not offering a basic Twitter course.  (sigh….)  Talking 5 figures here.

Will I do HTMYHB Sponsored Posts again?   Maybe…

  • Thanks for the follow up on that @randithompson- great to know!

  • @randithompson @elle @kc_kreative @andrea-vahl @claudiapoeckl

I’ve never heard of selling posts. Can you explain?

    Thanks!

  • if it is a post that your audience would like, why not. If your audience is football and you sella square dancing post you would probably just annoy your client base.

  • @lydiamediavilla I have not done it; however, you would just sell a post on your Facebook page – a private promoted post if you will. As  @richardmclaughlin said, the post should be a good fit with your clients or you’ll risk losing what you’ve built (via the annoyance factor).

  • Thanks for clarifying Kristy. I would never have thought to do that.  @kc_kreative

  • @lydiamediavilla  This is not what I would recommend for most pages.  I had several fans contact me to purchase a “HTMYHB Sponsored Post”  (posted from HTMYHB)  and I did another Great Experiment.

I might use this for special sales, but would have prefered to have done a joint venture with these people instead.  That way, I would have access to their lists and not just the other way around.  I would also have made more $$$.  Now, I know….

    Randi

  • I like joint ventures. Any body want to joint venture with me for mountain rentals or expo niches, that would be great.
