I think this is in violation of FB’s terms but not sure. It’s on a FB Event Page:
“In celebration of the first anniversary of our founding, we will be giving away three (3) Visa gift cards in the amount of $50.00 each. The winners will be selected at random at 12:00 midnight (EDT) on Saturday, September 1, 2012, and they will be announced after they have been notified. To enter for your chance to win, simply click “Join” to join this event! After you’ve joined, feel free to invite more of your Facebook friends!”
If it’s not in violation, I think it’s very clever! What do you think?

Hi Michelle, it is a violation. You can’t use any built it Facebook functionality to run promotions. You can only condition entering the promotion with liking a page.
Every promotion, which uses Facebook features looks smart, because the engagement is bigger and it’s much cheaper to create it

Yes it’s a violation @michellefontaine just as @milan-steskal said. Lots of people using these tools incorrectly. If they get caught, Facebook can shut down their Page.
