Running a promotion or Running an ad (4 posts)

  • I work with a non-profit that is looking to spend money on our Facebook Page with the ultimate goal of getting brand awareness increased.

When is it a good idea to just promote via an ad the Facebook page verses pay to have a promotion through something like wildfire?

  • Great question!!  This is information I would like to know as well.  I look forward to some great advice.

Facebook ads will typically give you a greater reach, as the audience would be all of Facebook or a large subset of Facebook, while a promotion through a tool like Wildfire will primarily leverage your current user base and their friends.

The upside of running a promotion is that your current fans and their immediate friends are much more likely to participate in your promotion because the level of trust is far higher. The targeting for Facebook ads is far from perfect, so you are likely to get a lot more users clicking who are not at all interested in what you do.

I’m biased towards the promotions side of things because the response you get there, while typically smaller than Facebook ads, is often more ‘real’.

Our company (www.yupiq.com) provides promotion building tools to encourage your fans to share and spread the word about your organization and generate organic buzz. We’ve worked with non-profit Mercy Ships in the past. I would love to take a few minutes to talk to you and see if we’re the right solution for you.
