Registered Trademark Symbol How to? (6 posts)

  • Ok, this is my first time posting so here goes.

I am trying to add a registered trademark system ® after the work REALTOR which is page of my name on my fan page. http://www.facebook.com/BuyMaineLand however I get this message back when I do it “Our automated system will not allow that name. Consider Gary R. Jordan Jr. – Realtor”. Why is this message coming up? Is there a way to get a registered trademark symbol after REALTOR? Needs to look like this REALTOR® I have seen others that have it. Thanks for any help!

  • Consider Gary R. Jordan Jr. – Realtor®
    Lower case REALTOR

  • @gary-jordan Yes, that is a good suggestion to try from  @richardmclaughlin because sometimes they have issues with uppercase letters.  But Facebook probably has an issue with the trademark symbol and it may be that some people added that before Facebook changed to not allow that symbol.  I don’t know for sure if they don’t allow it now but they mostly don’t allow symbols in the Facebook Page names.

  • @gary-jordan @andrea-vahl I guess they don’t allow ®, © or ™ symbols just because if they allowed, anyone can come up with a new page and can grab that registered, copyright or trademark symbol even if they do not officially/legally do not hold any copyright or trademark registration for brand or company name. I mean if fb allows using such symbols, anyone can use it to establish (fake) credit or identity even without officially holding rights or trademarks, which could cause harm to genuine brands and companies holding legitimate rights.

@gary-jordan But you can include this symbol in your about section. Have a look at info section of the page https://www.facebook.com/HospitalForThePoor/info

    Thanks!

  • Thanks everyone, facebook must have allowed it or at one time did, as I do see it on other pages.  Including the word REALTOR®.  I tried the suggestions, but still it doesn’t allow. the ® symbol.

  • Is the ® right?

The proper symbol to use depends on whether the trademark has been registered with the USPTO.  To signify that a trademark is registered with the USPTO, and therefore afforded the benefits of such registration, the (R) symbol is used.  It is important to note that while the Trademark application is pending at the USPTO, the (R) symbol may not be used.  During this time, use of the (TM) or (SM) symbols is appropriate.  The (TM) and (SM) symbols should be used when a mark has not been registered with the USPTO.  The (TM) symbol is used for goods, while the SM symbol is used for service marks.  Use of the (TM) and (SM) symbols  signifies to other parties that the owner of the unregistered mark has a claim of ownership to that mark.  It also warns such parties against unauthorized use of such marks.
