Recent Posts by Others – A creative approach to engagement (16 posts)

Topic tags: engagement, Timeline
  • One of the biggest issues with the Timeline format has been regards to the “recent posts by others” When a fan makes a post to your page, the post gets shoved into a box on the right instead of displayed in the page feed.

About a month ago, my wife and I started following an Autism mom who has figured out a great work around for this issue.

She reposts the posts left by her fans so they show up in her Timeline. Not only does this allow for better exposure for her fans, it creates better engagement because now the comments are more visible to others who are used to participating in this fashion. Sure it’s more time consuming to repost, but what a way to stand out to your fans, and if it’s a business, doing this would put you above your competition and give your customers that personal attention they’re used to getting face to face.

If you’re curious, take a look at her FB page – Homestyle Mama (with a side of Autism)

    Enjoy … Scott

  • Too funny … I just found this post “How to Integrate Recent Posts With Your Facebook Timeline” which shows us a little hidden secret on pushing the recent posts by others into your feed.

When you hover over the posts and see the little x, the tooltip states “remove” but if you click on it, a drop down menu pops up with more options than “delete”.

I thought I had seen comments show up in other people’s timeline … now we know how they did it. ;-)

  • @scottprock Hi Scott

This is a great idea but instead of re-posting it, you can do this with one click via Facebook.

On your page, where the list of “Recent Posts by Others” is located (to the right towards the top of the page) click on the “x” in the top right-hand corner of the post your want to show on your page and select “Allow on Page”.

You can even “Highlight on Page” as well.

    Hope that makes life easier.

  • @scottprock George Takei does this same sort of thing and he is always in my new feed. Course he has a huge following…

Nice FB page, I shared it with a friend who has an autistic child—thank you.

  • Thanks @russellallert … I think we posted near the same time lol … I just learned that too. Makes you wonder why FB hides that under the “remove” x

    Thanks again … Scott

  • @scottprock You must of just beaten me. :)

Yeah, it has been there for a while but it is odd they hide it.

  • What a GREAT tip!! Thanks for sharing this!

  • @scottprock thanks for the link, great find. I shared it on my fb page ;)

  • @clusterwebdesign No Problem, Heather. :)

  • Something I learned from Homestyle Mama – she re-posts the comments so the posts show up in the news feed of her fans. When you add the posts into the timeline there’s less of a chance they will be seen. It’s her way of helping her fans get noticed.

Thanks to all for the great comments … Scott

  • Wow, this is awesome, I just went through my two pages and “Allowed” several posts from fans. This will be huge for our page!

  • Thanks, @scottprock, for bringing this to our attention.  I’ll have to try it!

  • @scottprock thank you for the tip, I checked that page and it was very cool.

  • @scottprock @russellallert GREAT points, and something all pages should consider. Thank you for sharing this!!

  • @scottprock Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for this great tip!  I will start utilizing this on several of the pages I admin.

  • the tips are very much helpful but this doesn’t change the fact the timeline was not a friendly and positive move :-)
