Reach and engagement dropping since Sept. 20? (5 posts)

  • Without my having changed anything about the kinds of content I posted or the days and times I posted, I noticed a significant drop in reach and engagement starting around September 20. So today I hunted around on the web to see if there was any news about FB having made major changes to Edgerank. What do you know:

  • @bamacrobie SAD TO SAY I HAVE Noticed this  too….i only have 3000  fans  but   things have  dropped  and i  cant  see a  reason…im  averaging   about  7 or 800  have seen this post   compared to  most   posts   being over  1000  just a few weeks  ago…… …

i  didnt  go along with this  the last time it was  brought up  on here…several weeks  ago…then i  didnt see a   drop in interactions…….  now i do and  have  been  racking my  brain to see  what the reason is…

    please  keep us updated….

p.s. i went to the  facebook help  page  …to the  page section…..and  there are lots of  reports of this…but nothing  FROM  facebook….that i could find…

  • Facebook recently changed its reach algorithm, some time around Sept. 25. I can only tell you how surreal it was to see engagement up by 33% and reach down by 40% this week. However, we’re all a bit in the dark as to what to do about this.

For instance, it’s hard to tell if Social@Ogilvy’s account that Facebook wants 80% organic and 20% paid content on a feed is true (although the fact that the company is now public makes me believe this.) On the other hand, PostRocket claims this has more to do with changes to Insights reporting and that reach is only slightly down. I have noticed reach numbers that literally make no sense (viral numbers lower than the amount of shares, or “1 person reached” when 200 people have liked a post), so things may shake out in the end.

  • I can’t tell you have irritated all this makes me! Our Facebook page has just under 6,000 fans. Our organic reach has been 2,500-2,800 per post. Many of our advertisers choose us over traditional media outlets due to our social reach.

In the past 6 weeks, however, our organic reach has plummeted to less than 1,000/post and our viral reach is non-existent! It made no sense.

Ironically, I received no less than 5 phone calls from Facebook over the summer wanting me to buy into their new advertising plan (rates starting at $1,500/month). I declined because I don’t have that kind of ad budget. Clearly I wasn’t the only business owner to say no. Just two days ago, Fox News ran the following story…

  •  i just  read this…http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/33410/Facebook-Radically-Changes-Reach-Metric-How-You-Were-Affected.aspx   and it  raised  more  questions……  are  lots  of   fans  still seeing  the posts and   not  being  counted  because they  didnt   take any action?  i totally value  being seen   in  a fans  feed    even tho they dont do anything….   but is  that happening?  that possibility   seemed to  be in the hubspot  report….

i hope this  thread  stays alive…

@cleelake we are having the  same experience and percents  as you…ugg @courtney_rri @bamacrobie
