Question about running a promotion on FB. (5 posts)

  • I am currently running a promotion on my FB fan page. I am using Rafflecopter, per FB rules. I was wondering if it’s a problem to announce the winner in a status update even though I actually ran the contest using a third party application. Would that be a violation of the rules? I just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

  • @bcbsmedia

You can’t announce a winner via your page.

http://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php (details at the bottom of the page)

  • If you let them know via e-mail first, you can then congratulate the winner on Facebook, @bcbsmedia  That is my understanding and I’ve seen many large corporations doing it (doesn’t always make it right) but that’s my understanding!

  • I think if FB is NOT the primary way how you inform about the winner, it should be OK. I mean, at the end, it’s just a nice status update about something going on in your business - and you can maybe mention the app or page where the competition took place if people want more information.

  • This is what Facebook says

vi.    You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages. ”

So you should be fine if you notified the winner before you publish the status update
