QR Code on Facebook Page Cover. (6 posts)

  • Do you have any idea on if QR Code is allowed to be put onto faceoobook page cover photo? Basically, i doubt because QR Code may have a Call to Action which isn’t allowed under Facebook’s guidelines for cover photo. Apart from that, most people use QR Code to embed web urls which is again not allowed to be put on page’s cover photo. What if i embed my website’s url into QR Code and then put that QR Code on the page’s cover photo?Do you think this is breach of facebook’s guidelines? I think yes, it is. But just want to know your opinions.Thanks,

  • @moinshaikh, help me understand the benefit of putting the QR code on your FB cover please:

    When someone visits your FB page on his computer, would he really scan the code via his mobile to visit your website via his little mobile device? Or would he rather enter the website on his computer directly? (either by entering the webaddress, clicking on a link in the ‘about us’ section or via a FB app)

    Maybe it would be more beneficial to link your website with your FB posts every now and then and make your fans visit your website like this?

    Just a thought. Maybe I’m missing something…

  • Very good question. I’d go for it until they specifically say you can’t do it! Nice loophole i think you have found ;)

  • Great point claudia. Actually there is no point in putting web adress on cover as visitor can directly open it from his/her pc by typing. But i was asking just make sure whether it breaches any guidelines or not. I mean we can use QR code to send sms as well so in case any company wants to send sms by using qr code, can it embed that qr code into its cover photo?@claudiapoeckl

    Thanks! @scottlinklater I still think FB can not allow such move.

  • It would of course be the not-so-obvious way to sail around restrictions, but I think it would still be against the rules.

    FB says that the cover picture may not contain contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section. So even if you would wrap a phone number in the QR code (for direct dial or sms), it’s still information that you could put in the ‘about us’ section.

    FB does not specify in which way you should not show this information. So any method to provide such info would be a breach.

    You can of course take the risk, because maybe at this stage their checks are not as specific yet to include QR codes. But I personally think it’s just a question of time until they find a way to scan all codes efficiently.

    Good luck if you try ;-)

    @moinshaikh

  • I agree with @claudiapoeckl,  @moinshaikh  I think it would just look weird to have a QR code there since there is no obvious benefit.  And not worth it because it almost breaks the rules of having a web address there in a picture format.  Better to have the link to the website in the About section.
