Promoted posts FYI (9 posts)

  • Just tried my first Promoted post last week and it’s reach was about 3 times the normal reach for me – FYI – the post stays near the top of your page after the promotion runs. Don’t know how long it will stay at top – If I pin a post it stays right below it. Anyone else notice this.

  • @karenallison  i never noticed  that will watch  next  time……..i use  pinned posts  a  bit  tho…

    .. sounds like your  promoted post  seemed  good  to you…..

  • I had promoted a post for a summer sale – it went out to a lot of people but it didn’t result in any orders yet. That was my goal. I wonder if it will stay toward the top of my page until the end of June. Anyway – cheap experiment. I may only use the promoted posts when something big is happening with my business.

  • Hi, @karenallison

    I experimented with the Promoted Posts twice now.  The first one was for a contest I was in (Mari Smiths Great Timeline Cover Contest) the next one to share the results.

    I did notice an increase of votes as a result.  Even with a lot of interaction it only reached 30% of my fans.

    The second Promotional Post was about 27%  It has a greater reach, but only because Mari Smith posted on it.  (Wow-can that make a difference)

    For now, I am not going to use them anymore.  The do not seem to be with the cost.   I am now doing “The Great Experiment” on my business page where I am testing how far the reach goes by making more posts.  This is day two and the results are much better already than the Promoted Posts.

  • I agree – don’t think I am going to use them much at all.

  • @karenallison @randithompson  I did use a promoted post on a Facebook Offer and I think it can be good to use for something special you are promoting.  I definitely got more interaction when I promoted a completely “fun” post so that was good to help maybe re-engage my audience.  But I agree, I won’t use them too much.
    I did a blog post on my findings here: http://andreavahl.com/facebook/are-facebooks-promoted-posts-worth-it.php (with a video from Grandma :)

  • I agree, @andrea-vahl  I think the Promoted Posts will be good for sales or special events.  I did not find I had more interaction other than people who wanted to see how they worked.  But my focus was not on a sale or offer and that might have made a difference.

  • @andrea-vahl I agree with “don’t use them too much”

    @karenallison @randithompson

  • I am hearing a lot of chatter about the number of business page posts getting buried and not receiving attention now.  Many I’ve heard from think that FB is trying to bury page posts so that businesses will pay for the promoted posts.  Have you noticed any difference?
