Private or Secret pages for business (9 posts)

  • When I set up my business FB page it made me link it with my existing private page – which was OK as I hadn’t actually activated it and opened it to the public so there is nothing private on it.  I am happy enough to have it connected and am using it as ‘owners page’.I want to set up a secret page for my parents (I’m a pre-school) where I can place photos and videos etc that are only viewed by group members. My difficulty is that when  try to do this it asks me what ‘friends’ I want in and it won’t let me do it without friends. I don’t have a ‘friends’ section in the business page(I don’t think anyone does do they?) which means it wants me to have the friends on my private page?  Can someone tell me how I can go about this please?  If I let my customers come in as friends on my private page and make a secret page for them do I then have to have a secret page for my private area as well?

  • @anitaendersby
I suppose it would be better to create a list. Go check this video: How to create a List
    Hope it helps.

  • Do it as a secret hidden group. It can be so secret it does not show up on searches.

  • @anitaendersby I agree with  @abigailgorton – creating a group will allow you to keep things private.

  • Thanks for the feedback.   The secret group is what I am after I think, but I just don’t know how to have it on my business page rather than on my private one.

Can you have ‘friends’ on a business page?  or is it just people who ‘like’ the page?

  • Anita,

Here is an article that may help: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/how-to-use-secret-facebook-groups-to-enhance-your-business/

I don’t believe you can start a group from a page – you would have to start it from your personal account. However, you don’t have to ‘friend’ people who join the group, and you can keep your privacy settings such that your life is still private. The people in the group would know your name, but I am guessing from the situation that they would know that anyway.

No, you cannot have friends as a page, just likes.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks Rivka,

I will go in and have a look at that link now.  Funny thing….I made 2 secret groups – 1 for my business and 1 for personal so there is not actually anything going on directly in my personal page but now I can’t find my secret pages..ha ha. How secret is that!!!

It might be just because I have this new timeline thing – looks pretty but I don’t quite get it.
