Post videos on Facebook, or link to YouTube? (7 posts)

  • I help run a closed Facebook group that is comprised of a select group of customers, and I am looking to share some videos with the group. Some of these videos are large and will have to be broken down into smaller segments.

I am wondering if I should post these videos to Facebook or YouTube (then post the link on the Facebook group).

    Here are my concerns:

    • I will have times where I don’t want the video to be “featured” on our corporate YouTube channel and just want a link to provide to the group.
    • I know Facebook has limitations on video size/length, so I would have more “mini-videos”

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

  • @mattanderson44 — If the video is just for certain people, upload on youtube and keep the video “privet” where only people who have the link can access it.  Then post the link on the group page.

you can also make a video “private” on youtube so if you want to keep your entire video inventory on one platform for easy reference and tracking, that may be a good solution, too.

here’s some info on how to share a private youtube video on facebook:http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=296740790093

since you’re grabbing the url, it should work whether it’s a group or your wall.

  • oops just saw Devanis post. apologies for the duplication!

  • What about using a YouTube app for Facebook?   Involver has one that I believe is free - http://involver.com/applications/.

  • Thanks for the replies everyone!

    Two things:

    1. The rest of our social media group suggested creating a seperate channel for the group that I’m responsible for. We don’t want to have to create new channels everytime an area of the company wants their videos seperated from the corporate site however. So perhaps the “private” option or perhaps build a playlist on the corporate channel?
    2. Nichole – I have never seen that! It looks awesome! That would definately be easier than posting a link everytime and provide a central location for commenting. Do you know if that works for just “pages”, or will it work for “groups” as well?

  • I just added it to my business page – amazing how easy it is – thank you!
