Post video directly on Facebook or link from YouTube? (6 posts)

Topic tags: Facebook, SEO, video, YouTube
  • Yesterday I finished a video and posted it on YouTube, then posted a link on our Facebook page to that YouTube video…. Today I discovered the video tab on our Facebook page (which I had moved way down the list of tabs due to lack of new videos)

Does it make more sense to post on YouTube and link Facebook to that video? or post in both places without linking together in any way?

If you take a look at our page, both the youtube video and the facebook video are visible in the timeline http://www.facebook.com/ImpactThriftStores.

    Thanks

  • @impactjill  One good reason to post it in your Facebook videos is that if the video is shared, it will have a link to your page in the upper part of the video that will allow people to Like your Page right from the video.

That being said, I usually just upload them to YouTube myself and be done with it.  In know for awhile the video uploader was so slow for me that I gave up.  But last time I tried it was much faster.  I haven’t done any testing on comparing the views and shares of a YouTube video vs a Facebook video but that might be an interesting comparison.

  • @andrea-vahl It might be another good challenge like your photos vs. links w/summary photo.  @impactjill I’m curious to know if there is a difference for the times when we do post a video (rare). I know that a photo receives a greater visibility than a link with summary photo – saw it yesterday in fact (and the day before).

  • @impactjill – I allways post only on Youtube and link to it from the ohter networks, blog and the like. That way the youtube video gets all the views which in turn improve her position on youtube, maximising the potential. If you want to give a video a ‘ jump-start’,  post it on youtube and spend $25,- (spread out over a day or two)on a facebook ad promoting that video.
That way your video gets initial views quickly and shoots up on the Youtube (and Google!) SERP’s!

  • @bartvandervelden, I think you’re right.. in the big picture, posting to YouTube is the most beneficial from an seo perspective so I’ll definitely continue with that.

But each video will probably have to be uploaded to Facebook  also rather than linked to YouTube just to fill up that folder if only to answer the “when I click on the video link on our Facebook page, why don’t I see our video?” question from various co-workers, etc…

@andrea-vahl, the video linked from YouTube to Facebook posted on Monday at 4:05pm has been “seen” by 476 people, and the one posted directly on Facebook on Tuesday at 11:50am is up to 449 people.  Not sure that says anything at all.

  • @impactjill Jill, it depends on what your goals are and where you want to drive clicks. An advantage of posting the video on Facebook is, that engagement with the video gives more engagement to the page. It’s like sharing photos from 3rd party websites and uploading to Facebook. An advantage of posting to Youtube is, that you can share it across more channels easier (Youtube, Facebook, blogs, etc)
