Many businesses have a Business Page and a Places Page. A bit confusing to the consumer not knowing which page to go to when you’re looking for info. Fans comment on both of these pages.
The check-in feature in Places is great for obvious reasons. 
Is the best way to go about this to Merge the two applications together under Resources? You loose the content on the Places page but you still get the ‘Check-In’ feature correct? 

Also, for a start-up business, what’s the best way to set this up from the beginning so there is no confusion but you still have all the features of the Places Page.

This is a good discussion.  We had two pages a Non-Profit Org and a Places page.  We merged the two, because it made more sense to point people to one location and not have a bunch of pages show up in the search.  When we merged them together it kept the content from the Org page and brought in the ability to check-in from the Place page, as you mentioned Andrea.  However, the drawback is our merged ”official” page is not showing up in the search for Facebook if you haven’t ever “Liked” our page.  We need to check it again to see if Facbook has made any changes since we reported the problem, but this is a drawback we encountered from the merge page feature.
