PICTURES OR TEXT….. (17 posts)

  • every day when i post i  have to decide  to  go with pictures or text….im  starting to think the   less  seen pictures   are   better  because thats what my  followers  really like…buti dont want to lose any  followers…

..BUT THEN  i get an email  from my best  customer of the year!!!  who  said  she never sees my feed anymore,   she  found me on the internet and  came   from  a long way and bought   a huge truckload of furnit;ure from us…….  so i know  my   messages  arent  getting out like they used to , even to  ones who   want  to see,,,,IKKK

any  new  proof or theories out there?  what   are  YOU   doing  on this  subject?

  • why do you feel that you have to do one or the other? Why not post the picture and later int he day the corresponding text. Or split test it out. see which works better at different times of day.

  • yes,  thats  kind of what im  doing now….messy tho…and  not  quite that easy…

  • I still put the text with the picture but every now and then (more than in the past) I just post text. Like this I hope to reach the fans that I don’t reach when posting pics.

What does not work for me at all are questions and events. So when I create an event, I post the details text only a few days later. And when asking questions I won’t use FB’s question tool anymore. I get almost zero reach with it!

  • Hi Ann…..pictures and video…..it’s been proven to me time and time again. More engagement, more people Share. I would never post anything to my page or a client’s FB page without a pic or video, period.

  • Also, back link to your web site when you can with FB posts….

  • @annfurnivall Hi Ann

Always mix it up. Variety works better than any one form in the long run.

  • my  page was built on   almost all pictures…..  but things have changed  …for the worse.imho….. @russellallert so  thats why im   using  text  more now….. i like links  too but they dont seem to work   very well….also  contests dont work  so far….mostly   they just want to see what s  going on   at the store….a window  picture   got  1000  views  today….better than  usual almost like   the  old  days a few months ago..

. @claudiapoeckl im  doing  what you  describe..what else  can we do? …my  events are  good  but they arent  really facebook events…facewbook  helps  market them  tho……

  • @annfurnivall With links, Ann, use a URL shortener with some analytics (like Bitly.com) to track clicks as I find a lot of people click on the links but they tend not to like or leave a comment on Facebook.

So, while you may not think they work, people are noticing and clicking on them.

  • i mainly link to my  website and my   info there tells me  how many  came….its ok but nothing  too big….also i  read   on a link here that links we NOT popular for  facebook……im  going to put a link  to  my  christmas  board  on pinterest   on my facebook page tonight,,, later…

.i just put a picture of   some  exciting  stuff im  getting    on and   getting  good  interest…….abouit  20 likes and  comments   in  the  first  half   hour…

…i love  the  pictures… they  are so easy and that  really  counts….

  • We post three types of posts every day at Social Media Examiner, @annfurnivall A couple of photos, a link, and a text only.  I think it helps to hedge your bets!

I think you should keep posting a lot of pictures since that’s what your audience responds to.

  • I try to always do an image along with my blog text, but would love to get to a place where I have videos to post as well.

  • Hi @annfurnivall —

Not to be off-putting for your FB involvement but do you put out a daily or weekly newsletter?  That’s the smartest way to stay in contact with your good customers.

FB is great but with the changes they’ve been making it is not so good for local biz.

  • everybody.s different….facebook is    sure  good  for OUR  BUSINESS….. its not an either or situation …….we do a lot  besides  facebook…  …but  i like my  website too and my  email list and my snail mail list…and my pinterest….   to me its a nice messy  web…but   right now  facebook is  THE KING….   when it   stops   being that hopefully  i will know and do something different..

a business has to be  tough and  flexible  ,  there is   going to  be  change that you  cant  control……but why miss out on a great   marketing opportunity;  going on  right now?   for us  that  has  been and  still is   facebook….  if  you  get retail  clients    please let them  try it!!!  it  can work  like a charm….

we do  put out a monthly   email  newsletter….  our  database is over  4000,  most  from sign ups in our store….i think daily or  weekly would  be overkill…for us…. i  dont want them to get  sick of seeing us …

  • I used to always go with text and a picture, and I ALWAYS post a picture when I’m posting a link, as that is what many people recommend (including Mari Smith). However, over the past few weeks I have backed away from pics a little and done more straight text and those have gotten better reach, so I’m not completely sure. But, I would agree that it’s important to mix it up.

In the end, test and see what works for your audience. I know it’s not the most helpful answer, but it’s the truth.

  • Hi @annfurnivall

I came across this article today and since I know you’ve posted several threads relating to this this topic I thought you might be interested in reading it.

Facebook Text-Only Posts Beating Photo And Link Posts On EdgeRank

Evidently your interpretations of how your facebook posts have been doing are pretty spot on.

  • @juleswebb thanks  jules…. good info…..its  so  twisted… more  views  with text  but  we know they like pictures  better….im  trying to look at the insights and   understand  them  better…im  doing  both text and pictures… for  sure…

i sure dont   want to  count on my  viewers  to have to do anything  to  get my posts!!!lol….  dang,  they already liked me…
