Official Page: Pick a Topic?? (10 posts)

  • Hi Everyone,

I joined this group about a week ago and find it so useful.

When setting up a business page there is a question within the ‘Basic Info’ tab which asks ‘Official Page: Pick a topic’ – I have no idea what to put here – can anyone help please?

  • Hi Juliet (@julietd),

That is just if your current page is not THE official page.  So, if you are just a fan and wanted to create your own page about ABC co., you would put their actual Facebook page URL in the field.  Otherwise, you can leave it blank.

    Good luck!

    Alicia

  • I was wondering the same thing, Thanks Alicia

  • Hi Alicia (@asearfoss)

Thank you for a quick reply!  I didn’t realise that you can set up a page about an official company as a fan – would this be evident when liking the page?

    Cheers,

    Juliet

  • I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone fill in that field actually. :)   We’ve stumbled upon other people’s fan pages, though, usually by doing a search for our charity within Facebook.   That’s actually a good habit to get into because sometimes you have people creating a flame page about you, if they were mad at your company.  From experience, I can tell you the latter is very hard, if not impossible, to get taken down.

  • @julietd not sure much about companies’ creating separate fan page and official page. Yes offcourse, big brands and celebrities might have this facility. I mean they can have their official representatives manage their official page while their fans can create and dedicate fan page to them with mentioning official page in the fan pages official page column.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for your replies @asearfoss and @moinshaikh

    Cheers,

    Juliet

  • @asearfoss ~ I actually found it very easy to have a page removed.  The page was a combination page for two of our courses and pointed to one of our websites.  I showed proof that I owned the permissions on the domain space and associated IP and that I was a member of the course management for the courses.  Then I listed the things that the page was doing that were destructive to our business personna.  The page was gone within a day.

  • @dedimason – I tried and our PR person tried.  They did take down the images the other person was using, but would not take down the page.  We explained that it shows up in the Facebook search as our company name and it isn’t until you get onto the page that you see it’s not ours – but even then you have to really look.   I was glad they were so quick in getting the images down at least.

With your encouragement, though, I might try again.

     :)  Thanks so much!

  • @asearfoss  ~ Good Luck!  I hope you can have it removed.  If the company you’re representing is spending ad dollars on Facebook, use that to your advantage, too!  I found that they listen when you’re spending as little as $300/year.  They like those ad bucks :)
