Numbers or Interactions (10 posts)

  • What’s more important on Facebook; number of followers or interactions?

I have an opinion, but want to learn what others believe.

  • I really do thing that numbers matter on some level.  I think people do judge you by the numbers and are more likely to click Like if they see 500 or 1000 other people like the page (including many of their friends).

That being said, I think interaction is the most important.  What do you do with your updates, how do you help, how do you sell, do you interact, etc.  That’s where people get to know, like, and trust you so that they can ultimately buy from you.  Other’s thoughts?

  • Great question!  I would say interaction.  There are all sorts of “Share Your Page” and “Like Ladder” groups on Facebook, but all those do is get your like numbers up.  And they are personal pet peeves of mine.

I prefer for have interested and like-minded people “like” my page(s) rather than random people who may not care from participating in a “like” ladder.  My competitor (we live in a small town) uses those to get her pages more likes, but I prefer quality over quantity.  If you have interested, engaged users the content and interaction will be better.

    Just my opinion :)

  • I think interactions would be, they are far more organic. Just as keywords used to be the rage organic keyword ranking is far more precious. I think of likes and interactions in that light.

Likes are ok, but they liked it so what? Are they ever likely to come back? Who knows. How often to people “like” a page just to enter a contest for something cool they want? Clicking one button does not really get a lot of buy in to brand or concept. An interaction represents the actual emotional response which is the coin of the realm.

  • Agreed, same thought here – Interactions is more important than the number, there lots of spam account on FB, it is hard to say the people like your page are the ‘real person’ or ‘the bot’ ..

Plus, people who are liking your page –  they have different intention in mind, lots of them just click on that ‘like’ button and never come back again (results are the content of your page update won’t show up on their feed too), some of them just not like to show up and participant the discussion… not to mention FB’s insight feature’s bad bugs ..

So don’t get frustrate with the numbers, it is better to focus on the Quality of content and care those who interactive with you :-)

  • By far the interaction! It’s true that if you page is new, and website is new and the visitors see your page has like only 30 likes, they will probably have no incentive to like your page too (unless it’s something of really high quality or viral)However, if you don’t display the number of likes on page, yet they do visit your facebook, it doesn’t matter if you have 30 likes..if you have a lot of interaction, they will jump the board.

  • @donpurdum To me Don interactions are better because it lets me know I’m providing quality content and that people actually like the products I’m touting. I’ve seen pages with thousands of fans but the number of people talking about the page falls below 300 and I’ve seen pages with hundreds of fans and hundreds of people talking about the page. I would definitely prefer the latter situation for my businessShantel

  • @donpurdum I feel that interaction in more important than numbers. I’ve seen one wall that was used as a business page with only 56 friends and an unbelievable amount of likes, shares, and comments. There was another with over 3600, and she never posted anything. The only thing on her page was spam from her numbers. When I did send her a message, she didn’t respond.

Like Andrea, I feel that numbers are important to a degree, but interactions are more important.

Wow! Thanks for sharing everyone! All great points.

  • @jgassistance Interesting observation. I will never understand how someone never posts anything on FB or Twitter and have huge followings?
