Note About Hiding Posts on Timeline (14 posts)

  • I was hiding posts that were no longer relelvant (old contest links, time-sensitive, etc) from my timelines but when I was out yesterday and checked in to my pages on my Android App, I found that all of those hidden posts still show on mobile apps!  Then, just a little while ago, I learned from @clusterwebdesign that the posts also show if you’ve got Facebook Feed running to a website.

Think twice before hiding . . . if it’s something you don’t want confusing people, DELETE the post, don’t just hide it.  Of our active fans, I am probably hitting at least 60% on mobile (I really think it’s closer to 75, but am shooting low).  All of those fans have had my old time-sensitive stuff up there to confuse them because it’s not hidden on mobile.

  • @dedimason
I am thankful you pointed this out.
I have not thinking a few times simply hid a few posts rather than delete.
I am not using mobile right now but what about those who are.
    I appreciate you heads up.

  • @dedimason  oh  great….i  bet thats my situation too…. everyone has  those phones…..  thanks  dedi…

  • Thanks for the info @dedimason
Once I noticed this but was not sure if it was a facebook bug. Hope they fix this.

  • @fernandocortes ~ I am hoping that they get the timelines on mobile soon ~ and that it will help.  I just found out about the feed on websites doing it so I don’t know what they’ll do there.

  • Very interesting, @dedimason!  Thanks for sharing!  I’m hoping that it’s just a temporary bug as well – I would think they would want those to be consistent.

  • @dedimason thanks for that information, very valuable.
Regarding it being a bug .. if it’s not listed on the bug report Facebook won’t treat it as such and/or may not even know it exists.
    https://developers.facebook.com/bugs
Only drawback, you have to have a developer account to report the bugs.
I’ll do some checking, and perhaps dust off my developer login and see what I can post … that just means I have to find my password ;-)
    … Scott

  • @scottprock ~ thanks Scott.  I’ve never even tried to report a bug to FB, so I wouldn’t have had a clue that I needed a developer acct.  Isn’t that what I use to publish my apps though?  I have to go to the developers page and create an app.

  • @dedimason aha … I just checked, and I must apologize for offering the wrong information. I was thinking you needed to enter an api in order to submit a bug, then I went to the the repro section of a bug to see if that was where I saw it and it wasn’t there either.

Facebook has a developer.facebook.com and a developers.facebook.com (plural developers) so I thought they were separate, so not I’m a bit confused LOL … but thank you for keeping me on my toes, and didn’t mean to mislead.

I just remembered I might have been mixing them up with PayPal, cause I just about entered the developer address to get a sandbox account, loooooooong day!!

  • Too funny … I also just watched the singular version of the developer redirect to the plural … that answers that HA!

  • Thanks for the info @dedimason. That’s good to know.

  • @scottprock ~ LOL, Scott!  You sound as overloaded as I am.

  • @dedimason Thanks for pointing this out. I’ve been hiding spam posts but now I’ll just delete them.

  • WOW thank you for sharing! I spent like 2 hours per Fan Page “Hiding” and cleaning the content on the walls. I guess I will do it again when I have more free time on my hands, ha! :)
