not fair (9 posts)

  • today i was   cruising  thru   all the   fun  stuff at a  big  show in  warrenton texas right now…….and i   see tons of   businesses  posting   on  each others  boards….but they arent business pages  they are personal pages   with a business  name….. they are getting  the benefit of the social  facebook  friend idea      but they are a business……  i guess i  should look up  and see if i  can post as a business….its  rampant!!!

i  dont like  rules  but if  they have to be    there i   like to  see them  really there and   followed  by everyone….

  • @annfurnivall

Ann, If you have a business page, you can post via your business page’s persona, rather than from your personal profile’s persona. I do see your point about it being somewhat limiting, however, as pages don’t allow reciprocal “friends,” which a lot of people seem to prefer.

  • i have  wanted to  do  that  a few  times….but not often…

..  i have 2 pages personal and  business…unlike the   businesses im  talking about….its  seperate to me…i donrt  really   like to see a business on my    personal page unless ive liked  them.. like   grandma mary  or   media matters…etc etc

    @laurachristianson thanks…

  • @annfurnivall

there are facebook guidelines against that. each person is only allowed one personal page and businesses are to be separate. i keep mine separate but share sparingly on my personal page b/c of new friends here and there.  but then again I like to keep business & pleasure separate so that my friends & clients aren’t crossing over awkwardly.

facebook guidelines are very tight and hard to follow - but if you keep in mind that it is a free resource and utilize your other business practices it will go further than you realize.  i think that when people cross/combine their business with personal settings it just goes to show that they arent respecting the resource and are lazy about doing it right – However… most people don’t even know there are rules because FB is terrible with how everything is written and navigation through their system.

  • @melissaholmes right  melissa….and   we   follow the g uidelilnes…. and  are  heavy  users  as a  business  benefitting  from   facebook….. its  great  for us…

  • @annfurnivall As others have stated, having a personal profile set up as a business name is a violation of the Facebook guidelines. I know there have been other SME Networking Club campers who have mentioned they lost their account that was set up this way and had to start from scratch because Facebook had deleted the profile.

I think it is a work in progress of Facebook deleting the profiles but if a profile is “blocked/reported” then it is flagged and reviewed by Facebook. My guess is that this is where many of the deletions (without warning) have happened.

Are you referring strictly to Facebook or were there other social media platforms where a “personal” account was set up as a business?

  • @alexandrabriggs just  facebook….where i recently    noticed all this   wrong  use   was among  a  lot of online   /show  dealers, in my  field  ,  who  were  using  their  personal page as a  business page………and  the  talk  wasnt on   a personal level at all….it was  just about the  current  show  and  offering…in a  fun way  …

my point was that  this  abuse is happening in a rampant way…..i knew  the rules……. our  business is careful in that  regard..  we try  for sure !!!  altho you wonder sometimes how  serious   the rules are when you see so much violation    going on  thats ignored …so far…

  • @annfurnivall  I agree. I’ve seen many businesses using a FB profile instead of a Page.   Many people just don’t care or they don’t really know any better. Whenever I see someone I know doing that or when a business is trying to “friend” me, I send them a message to let them know they are in violation of Facebook guidelines. I also recommend them convert their profile to a page to continue doing business. I even make a short video for them.

    Enjoy!

  • @paulinobrener …thats a nice   idea..i might pass your link on   if i  hear of  someone  trying  to change  over…. .  but i figure   lots already   know…lol…

.if  facebook  were  enforcing   much i think the  news  would  spread  fast  in  the  world i   talk about….because we are all on the same   places a lot of the time….
