New Year’s Resolutions in Social Media (5 posts)

  • I recently came across apiece from Social Media Today listing 5 great New Year’s resolutions for Social Media professionals: http://bit.ly/tzHnyh.  They include:

    1. Stop automating posts (including those auto DMs on Twitter when people follow you)
    2. Use more video
    3. Push mobile
    4. Monitor social footprint
    5. Be a person (meaning work on in-person connections)

To what extent do you agree, and which of the five would you deem most important?

    Happy New Year!-Dani

  • Currently I don’t have any automatic posts set up but I definitely will be working on the other 4 resolutions.

  • Be more consistent with activity! Consistency and quality content are going to be my focus.

  • I agree on consistency, Dea, especially in the case of Facebook.  Admittedly, now that FB’s Edgerank algorithm has pulled back on the way they used to hide third-party shared updates (ie. those posted from Twitter) from the NewsFeed I think that occasionally auto-sharing a Facebook post when necessary is much better than not posting at all.

Posting once a day has been my sweet spot for Facebook pages across industries, as long as I am also posting often and with a speedy response time on existing threads started by fans.

  • I totally agree on the video frontier. The vast majority of my work is in animated videos. A good video feed of some of my superheros and the Angellos will probably pull down a lot of clickthroughs.
